Extreme Client Lag

Post by Mens Rea »

Hi,

I am having trouble with my client lagging a lot.

It has only started recently - I have not really installed anything new or changed anything. I have about 20% of my HDD left.

The client just starts to slow down, and down and down until it's running at like 5 frames per second and everyone runs faster than me.

Has anyone got any ideas of causes/fixes?

Regards,

Mens Rea.

First, check the CPU usage. I dont think it is the problem, but it wont hurt.

See if it increases significantly with gameplay time.

Second, before opening UO, open a cmd window(start>run>cmd) and type "ping login.uosecondage.com -t" without the quotes. See if the ping gets higher while you are getting lagged.

And a last question. You say that it slows down. You mean that when you open it, everything runs fine and with time things get bad, or that it is already slow when you open it?

With 3 clients sitting idle, not logged in, the CPU usage of each fluctuates between 40 and 25.

Mem usage between 76,000K and 38,000K for each.

It keeps changing around like it is doing something but it's not.

Other programmes are running fine - it's just the UO clients going all slow and dumb.

If I close them all, and restart just one, it works fine for a while then goes stupid and slow again.

My ping doesn't appear to increase substantially when the client lagging occurs. It seems to be client performance related.

My Razor CPU reductor is unchecked.

And yes, the game starts running slow over time.

So it seems it is totally software related, not network.

Have you tried a system restore? Sometimes it can help.

If nothing helps, try uninstalling the UO, deleting the folder on Program Files (sometimes some files are still left behind) and reinstalling it.

Sorry for the lack of options, never saw something like this...

So, did you solve the problem? I still see you posting arround but no more news arround here...

If yes, what did you do?

Look out for a process called "WinSAT.exe", its part of the intel integrated driver package and completely eats up the CPU sporatically from time to time.

Ending the process will solve any further issues.
