Air Elementals:

Post by Faust »

Could we please get the loot, specifically the gold, fixed for air elementals?

I know there are several creatures that are not right at the moment, but nothing quite so drastic when you compare them to the air elementals. Currently, they only give around 200gp on average. During the t2a era they yielded around 300-400gp average up to a maximum of 500. I have mentioned this in the past but it's been well over a year if not two now that it was last mentioned by me. This prevents a major hot spot from taking form in Shame that was present during the era that doesn't exist here.

The fix is very minimal but would have a big impact in the game all the way around.

PS
Sorry for not providing the '99 stratics link on the information... but the wayback machine/internet archive is blocked by my government agency's great firewall of china. Would appreciate it greatly if someone would assist by providing it in this thread when they get the moment.

Wow it is weird you mention this; I just stumbled upon it today, but I wasn't going to post until I figured out what we're actually using.

It should be 400 to 500, according to Stratics' October 1999 archive (http://web.archive.org/web/199902181015 ... m/hunters/)

And, according to this Escort post in July, 1999 http://groups.google.com/group/rec.game ... dfd448950b
That is, one escort [300 gp] is worth more than any monster a single established character can stand toe to toe against, with the sole exception of an air elemental
Talking about air elementals, 400+ gold per, in addition to a reasonable chance at a magic item, in addition to scrolls? Isn't this a bit...much?
Indeed, their difficulty and loot, in the abstract, are pretty imbalanced, which always makes for good PvM and PvP hotspotting.

I have always been on board with the idea of waiting until ALL creatures get fixed at once, but it has been a very long time now without any change. The air elemental room in Shame was an ideal hotspot during the era and it's always dead/empty here. The gold difference is just too drastic to wait in my opinion since there already has been many modifications to other creature loot(specifically the gold amount). If there were no alterations to the others it would probably be best to wait until the major overhaul took hold but that definitely isn't the case.

So, I saw some posts calling into question the loot from other monsters too.

So I looked into the numbers via Stratics' archived info. And overall, I found very little difference between what they have and what we have... air elementals were the only one I saw that seemed way off, and maybe ogre lords too (I think Stratics said 200 to 250). The rest were definitely within 10% to 20%, if not dead-on. Blood elementals, for example, are listed as 500 to 1000, and we appear to have an average of about 800, versus what may have truly been an average of 750.

Based on my experiences in game.. the air elemental is and has been the only creature that has such a huge drastic difference from the '99 stratics source for their loot. Shame was a really popular spot due to that spot and the blood ele room. However, only the blood ele room has any popularity here unlike back in the day.

North of minoc, in the water, you need a boat to get there, there should be a fairly regular spawn of 2 -4 water elementals in a small area.

I remember leveling my magic resist on siege there to avoid being pked.

Wow, I'd totally forgotten how good shame level 2 was for gold, and the sweet times I had down there fighting off PKs

400-500 was closer towards the high spectrum from my recollection. The average was typically around 350-375 yielding around 300-500ish range.

Either way, an increase in Air Elemental loot opens up some new hunting places for many players. Sounds like a win-win plan to me.

I used to love Air Eles back in the day.Seemed like that was the next spot to farm after your char was slaughtering the harpies of covetous easilly.
That is, one escort [300 gp] is worth more than any monster a single established character can stand toe to toe against, with the sole exception of an air elemental
And i do escorts to work magery when im sick of FS'n myself and the average is bout 170-210 gp atm.

This definitely needs fixed. I went to Shame the other day and thought it was odd they barely had any loot. I remember farming Earth and Air eles all day, and Shame was the top Murderer spot.

Definitely a high priority that needs addressed rather quickly in my opinion.

I went to level 2 of shame yesterday and something seemed off.

On level 2, there really aren't that many air elementals. I recall during T2A it was crawling with air elementals + scorpion/slime/rat spawn at the southern side. It was a major hotspot.

Entrance to level 3, there are earth elementals everywhere, but no sign of air elementals. I believe there should be air elemental spawn all over the level 3 entrance as well, may be incorrect about this one.

The air elemental spawn had a few right across the bridge on level 3 that spawned diagnol in between that bridge and the next one. The portion south of the first bridge next to the water spawned vermin and the area with the hay piles to the far east of the bridge next to the mountain area spawned vermin too. There was some vermin right before the second bridge area too. There was hardly ever any that spawned in the dead center area of the air ele spawn.

I don't recall very many air elements outside of this location. There were a few but nothing quite like that particular area on level 2. The respawn was rather quick on top of that too.
