- The guard changes made in patch 57 are reverted. This was part of the crashes that occurred on Thursday and after further review the changes were found to not be accurate. Guards will attack reds that are criminal near the town lines, but will not attack reds outside of town for simply being red. If any player attacks a player in town, regardless of where he is standing, as long as he has LOS to the caller, he may be guard whacked.
- Max taming difficulty for guaranteed control chance changed to 45 from 27.1
- Skill gain on failure rate reduced. Overall skill gain eased a bit to compensate. The net effect of this should be par with the previous system, but this is more accurate to era skill gain.
- Provoked creatures stop attacking their target if their target dies
- Creatures may be provoked onto players
- Stacks of Scrolls may now be used to add spells to spellbooks
- Friends can use pack animals
- Detect hidden message for trapped boxes no longer says "System: "
- Core optimizations and upgrade to .Net 3.5

Good question. I don't have anything concrete on this, but I had to do a revert back to what we had becuase before of a bug. If we can get some documentation on the correct behavior we'll make the indicated changes, and we'll do it more carefully.

This is correct, because you are attacking outside of town. I use to do this a lotPurge wrote:I remember shooting arrows over the moonglow fence near the bank at guards and people and not being wacked...

Glad someone else remembers
Re: Patch 58 - Sept 6, 2008 - Guards, Animal control, Provo
I too remember this. On Great Lakes, a warning was put up along the southern fence in front of the bank that warned people not to attempt to attack the guards as it was a bannable offense. It is also true that if a murderer attacked a player outside of guard zone they could still be guardwhacked, but only if a player called guards, an NPC couldn't (actually wouldn't) do it.

This is kind of a mini patch so I'm just hitching it onto the Patch 58 info:
- Using an Explosion potion, while still preventing you from using another for three seconds, will no longer prevent you from throwing one that is already "ticking".
Re: Patch 58 - Sept 6, 2008 - Guards, Animal control, Provo
There is a patch note about guards wacking if you are outside of town but shooting or casting at people inside. I don't want to go looking for it now but it is there and I do beleive it was pretty early on.
