For a long time I have as well we all have noticed a abundance of racist remarks. Now I am aware of all the arguments of how the use of the word can be the difference between if YOU select few who use these derogatory terms are indeed racist. Most of us like to think of ourselves as educated adults who would stand in the way of events such as slavery and the Holocaust. Now I know this is a quite a long way from being such a tragic event but this line of thinking is exactly what made the people of Germany and America feel it was ok to let them continue. Let me ask what are we doing as players to let the staff know this simply should not be tolerated on any level?
I am so offended some times that I would like to deed my houses and put it all in a trash barrel. We as players need to stand up speak out to let our stance on such matters known, that it simply is not alright to use words like the Nbomb in game or irc. I would like to think I stand in the way of ignorance and the spread of hate but have I? The answer is no, at least not as much as I could/should, not until now.
I certainly understand this is a small shard and losing even one player affects our player base but ever since alcon has taken his leave, trash talk has had less hate in the posts and the game has been all around more enjoyable. How many players just leave and say nothing because of such instances? We cannot afford to let this behavior continue.
I certainly am not trying to get people to go on strike and leave the shard but something must be done guidelines must be in place to prevent people from acting like this. So if I am the only one this post will simply die off and nothing will change but if we ban together pm the gms tell them how we feel make similar post maybe we can see some real change and the last obstacle that stands in the way of this shard truly being player friendly can be removed. It has gone on long enough and its time to stop casting these comments aside and trying to keep them outa sight and outa mind.
Pristiq, Dagon, grimey, these are people in the last 24 hours that I have seen use the Nbomb in irc and in game, if you feel ashamed you should but the list does not stop there. We have all witnessed cases like this and felt offended, awkward and sometimes helpless to do anything. This is certainly not trash talk this is real talk and something must be done, not later now! Lets make rules that say the use of such terms is a offense that can earn you a ban at least a suspension! Thanks you for the time it took you to read this but it is not enough we need real action and real change take care.

I agree completely, after tonights incident with Grimey, and two weeks ago with 2 TG members, there are too many people that think they can get away with saying whatever they please. I don't appreciate the amount of racism and hate that is being directed towards members of the shard. I take the comments directly to the admins, and Derrick whenever possible. I think just banning somebody from IRC isn't enough of a punishment. I believe there would be alot less of the racism going on if they were to recieve a suspension in game for a first time offense and a possiblity of a ban for a second offense. Doing so would make the player base much more friendly and also more child friendly. I have on multiple occasions had people come into IRC to ask about the shard and/or game and they get caught in the middle of racism or biggotry from members of our shard community. I feel it pushes newer players away, and makes those of us that are here much less comfortable. I would appreciate some feedback from the admins on the subject.

I've already said this in another thread; but no website, forum, or game I play has ever tolerated the kind of bile I see people spouting in UOSA; it's detrimental to community values, and can be a big 'turn-off' for people thinking they may want to come and play here.

Yes Pristiq I remember you using it and trying then to defend yourself by claiming it's context was not a racial, in no way am I trying to slander you or bring you character into question. I mentioned that above, lets keep this going in a good direction and not turn this into something it's not. We are not trying to find where these words are and are not appropriate but saying they are not appropriate and should simply not need to be used.
This has nothing to do with any one individual and I hope everyone will leave their feelings twards me outa this, this is a bigger issue and represents us as a community.

Nothing stopping you astrixing it partially; N***A - Everyone knows what you mean, and granted, we're not all going to die of shock if we see the word, but it's just far more pleasant for all concerned if they don't have to.

I've seen the UOSA IRC, it's very populated, and I'm sure the majority of the people on there aren't there to witness a handful of people running their mouths off with racist/sexist remarks.

I would like to join in I would probably play the shard much more if everytime i logged in and went to do something get pked and then after I die get slandered until I say f it and log off I dont even res.I dont mind getting pked i actually like when they give chase and i attempt to defend myself because all i lose is a few regs and some loot I can easily get back and a healer robe.But to be followed as a ghost and just watch the stuff that is said wow.You can say its a video game and blah blah blah.But do you really have to just say every racist/sexist absurd thing that you can type.I mean do you talk like a dumpster in real life or only when your chillin at west brit.

It is what it is guys. Being female and all, I could care less about sexist remarks. It's just one more of those things you put up with when you're a girl gamer. Especially when you're playing an MMO (aka a community of 12 yr olds).

Honestly, I think Derrick has more important things to do than go around policing potty-mouths. If you don't like it, like Dagon said, turn on your word filter. That's what it's there for. I mean, yea, I agree that it's juvenile to trash talk someone based on race/gender/sexual orientation/etc etc, but look at it this way: If all they have to say to you is "You f'n n*****!", that must mean they have nothing to say about you gaming-wise. In other words, you pwn them and they know it.

The world is becoming entirely too PC. Stuff like this still falls under freedom of speech, and while the thinking behind it IS narrow-minded, people should still be able to believe what they believe....whether or not it makes them a better person. This is not like someone applying for a job, and being turned down because they're black/gay/female/a purple elephant. If it were physical discrimination, I'd be just as up in arms. It's just some trash talking kids. Get over yourselves guys, and move on to bitching about something more important, like archer bots/BlackFoot's uber rare scamming/the housing issue/being grounded by your mother for not doing your homework.

i run all the filters and have a massive ignore list at this point. (helps for screenshots)
it will improve your experience greatly i personally guarentee it. You cant control peoples behaviours or expect anyone to actually be able to.
Do your best to protect yourself as you are in the best position to do so. (recalling usually works)

Hi OP. I hate racists as much as you but few things I wanna say...

Why does it bother you so much? It's nothing new for me, really. I think it's very hard for Derrick or GMs here to enforce this. Again, it's non-profit and there are simply so many things going on. I don't think it's right to make Derrick or the staff responsible (for cracking down on racist people, at least in game). But I do agree that prior to recent incidents, I have not seen the staff at least voice their stance on this issue. Other shards always have "no racism" as a rule stated somewhere obvious. But I noticed staff has been addressing this issue slowly.

I think Derrick has been doing something though. Just go on UOSA and search "generic player". These were guys who had offensive names changed right? But you know what people do? They make a char with the name "Generic Niglet". People with racists attitudes need to change themselves. I say just enjoy the game, and when you encounter racists/sexists/homophobs/neo-nazis, just be content that you're so much better than them. Who cares if they're the one who's ignorant, un-educated, psycho, petty, pitiful, etc... But I do like to say that using a derogatory term for a Black person to insult/describe someone as being a coward is f'ing disgusting.

Also, filter's aren't that useful because it's not the sight of the word that offends, but the intent and the person using it. Also people can just go like ch.ink or whatever. But bottom line, this shouldn't bother you this much. It's just a game. It should bother you in real life, but not in a game, ya know? (didn't mean that to be catty).

Okay I think I lost what I was trying to say but er... relax, and enjoy the game? For me, I don't associate/interact with people who I noticed are racists/homophobic/etc. Remember YOU are the one above the ignorant racists, not the other way around. And who knows maybe some staff members have Nazi banners above their computers while playing UOSA... just kidding. Some players do probably, but whatever!

Random: I think very highly of chum and cA because one of their guild rules are "No epithets (e.g., 'nigger', 'fag', etc.) on the forums, in IRC, or in game". Respect!!!

Relax, play the game, turn on your word filter if you can't stand certain words. No biggie.

I'm so sick and tired of hypersensitive thin skinned whiny people crying because they heard a bad word they don't like. Go tell your mommy or something, then get your pacifier. Its a freaking WORD!
