Bunch of chests just decayed in my house?

What's up? WHy did a bunch of chests just decay in my house? Each one had loot inside it, which dropped to the floor when the chests decayed.

They were probably not locked down, and an EV or NPC likely walked over them.

My house is private and I have been inside since I bought the chests.
They were not locked down, but there have been no NPCs inside my house
I can't afford another 800 gold!!!
