To new players; housing.

Post by Drull »

Hi,

Just want to let the new players to the server know that even though most of the landscape is filled with housing, you can still find places. I found a spot today near Trinsic, and put large patio house in it no problem. Plus there are tons of spots for 1-roomer smalls, everywhere.

It's not the best spot mind you, there's a lot of spawn around it, but still :)

Took me approx 1-2 hours of looking. In that time, I found a collapsed small too. Pretty close to Moonglow bank.

Enjoy!

I'm thinking about getting a house soon and I've noticed there are quite a few spots to place atleast some single room houses. Personally I'm trying to find the location I placed a house on OSI. I might have to reactivate my account just to get the coordinates.

Aye there are literally dozens of spots for smalls around (probably even hundreds) and with an hour or two searching you can still find some premium housing spots for larger properties. I placed an L-shape the other week and it only took about an hour to find a really cool spot. Isolated, low spawn, far from neighbours, no nearby placeable spots; exactly what I wanted. Just be creative and keep trying to place that house anywhere you think it might remotely fit, you will get lucky.

I dont know about during T2A because I dont think I had a house then but how do you place the house or test fit it. I think when I placed my houses on OSI there was a tool that you used and you could see what kind of house would fit in the spot. I think it was like a hologram. How do you do it here?

When you double click the deed a hologram of the house appears attached to your cursor. You can then just go around trying to place this on any spots you think it might fit. It'll either place or you will get a message saying it failed. If you end up placing in a spot and changing your mind you can always re-deed and start over. Unfortunately you have to do the process with a lot of a guess work and trial and error as there are no specific tools to show you explicitly what space is free or not. My advice would be if you find a spot that you think you can place in give it at least three attempts before moving on, it's hard to place in tight spots first try.

Oh ok, so you have to buy a whole deed? In other versions I remember you buy the tool which wasn't too expensive and then you could try placing any housing unit, if you wanted to place say a tower and the spot would let you you could place and buy the deed from the field, not having to go buy the deed for the tower and then go back to place it. The tool wasn't so much as to tell you if a spot was free, you could just easlier tell what kind of house you could fit in the spot you were looking at.

I liked my OSI housing spot. It was right beside a mountain with little spawn and there was a small forest there too. I've looked at maps online and I don't see a spot that could be it.

I know. I already went to the npc that sells the deeds and didn't see it. I had look up how to place a house on here.

I believe the house placement tool was introduced with AoS, along with customized house building.

There are a few quirks with house placement that aren't entirely accurate here on UOSA, but I think they're for the better. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in T2A, couldn't housing be placed directly beside something? A mountain, or another house, etc.

Or for example, being able to place housing over top landscape objects (ie. Brambles)

"Some “blocking objects” (some rocks, brambles, etc.) are being prepared to no longer block player character movement as of Publish 19. Note: Until Publish 19 is implemented, you may experience some “rubber banding” when trying to walk through these objects."

We're able to place houses over top things like that here, even though it was introduced in 2003.

Nope, I was wrong. http://update.uo.com/design_146.html -Jan 24 2000

Land Surveying Tool
This tool will allow players to check land without have to buy a house deed, thus allowing multiple people in a group to search different locations.

There were two different house placement tools on OSI.

The first came out with UO:R which was just a surveying tool. It would only tell you if a house would fit in an area.

Then in AOS they got rid of deeds and made the house placement tool, which would place any house.

Yes, I agree! You know what's funny? I thought I couldn't find a space (somewhat) close to a moongate for a large brick/small tower... so I settled for a small house. And just today, some person placed a small tower on a plot of land next to me that I thought could only fit a small house!

Just tonight I made enough dough to buy a small house deed and after looking less than 5 minutes was able to place it. Woot.

Question: I can't seem to mark a rune inside the house, is there a way to mark and recall inside your house?

Not unless you own a castle and can mark a rune inside of the courtyard.
