Re: Third Party Programs ruined Ultima Online
Forums ruined Ultima Online, The constant whining over long periods of time destroyed OSI and will one day destroy this shard.

Don't forget to mention EA, they ruined UO too.

Re: Third Party Programs ruined Ultima Online
I think the general OOG/OOC interactions brought the game down. When things started becoming personal, the interactions in-game became less "playing video game" and more "vendetta". Sure, you can have your competitions and rivalries, that's perfectly healthy, but taking a second to look at Trash Talk...
That's not UO. Talking trash in-game was one thing, bringing it to the public eye and throwing around e-peens, slandering, getting people to side with you offline or gtfo is another. That just wasn't the world I played. As people became increasingly aware of who the other was in real life, things started going downhill. This is primarily true of PRSes where the populations are so small that such offline alliances can really make the shard feel more like a "club" that others can either join or DIAF (AI?), but the effects are still seen on OSI today.
Not only that, but if you're not trying to chase someone, double-click a potion, AND hope that your "Last Object/Target Self" UO Macro remembered bandages instead of the now-empty bottle, plus typing out to your party members what's going on and where you might be in the middle of the Delucian highlands, you're not era-accurate.
Turn off Razor and grow a third arm, or gtfo, new. Face. Butt.

Third party programs (and other intended inaccuracies) are what keeps this shard from being a genuine 100% era experience. I've seen some proposed resolutions to some of them... hopefully one day!

My opinon: as logn as one person is usign razor, everyone will be required to use it to be up to that person's standards as far as "skill". Noone is required to manage regs or bandages because razor does it for you. afk macroing makes everyone maxxed. no in betweens. Multi accounting makes countless ghost accounts, similar to jsut NPCs.
How i handle it: Fidn a few friends, hang out with them. Macro skills to catch up witht he world and stand at banks talking all day.

Re: Third Party Programs ruined Ultima Online
honestly, i dont think i would have enjoyed UO as much during t2a if it wasnt for 3rd party apps. UOExtreme changed the way many people played UO. i still to this day wish the old UOE bank box bug worked. the one where you could open your bank box from anywhere in the world with a hot key. you could not drag items out unless you were near a bank tho. but you could recall off any runes that were visable in your bank with this bug
who needs blessed runebooks?
fastwalk anyone? made that 56k dialup connection seem almost like modern DSL. i pity anyone who used dialup back then and did not use fastwalk in UOE.
and who the hell wanted to carry nightsight potions? i sure didnt.

In the old days, a vast ammount of people used nightsight. WIthotu it, i feell there is a whole part of the game missing that determined interactive outcomes quite a bit. especially dugneon crawling.
Witht he legalization and even reccomendation of razor, you see soemthing many of us saw rarely in the true T2A era.
Discardrd nightsight gear.
theres very little true imemrsion left, alot of it due to third party apps with features like this and fastwalk.
The rest can be blamed on the tree hack everyone uses.
EDIT: this is jsut my personal opinion.

lol, i miss the days of massive battles taking place in deciet, and suddenly everyone stops to cast "In Lor"Arkah wrote:In the old days, a vast ammount of people used nightsight. even without razor now, macroing to 7x would be no problem with multi clients. any macro can be achieved with 2 accounts. it may be slightly less efficient than razor's "if" "for" statements, but it is still easy to be 10x more effective than 1999
potions, bandys, equip, etc were easily usable by UOE or UOA. the simple, easy targeting options available in razor are one of the few things that really make a difference.
