PvP against a thief

How do you protect your belongs if you're pvping against a theif? I have tons of stuff stolen, including weapons when I go to pvp against a thief. Usually they start to take my bandages, pots, regs and I'm left with just a weapon. Can you put all of your items into a locked chest and make sure the chest weighs over 100 stones? They can't steal stuff that weighs more than thier skill level right?

.... good question. I'm guessing the bank. I see what you're saying though, how would you use the pots, trapped pouches etc. I guess to keep regs and gold safe though it wouldn't be that bad of an idea though eh?
Do you have any other suggestions with regards to pvp tips? I try to keep my distance but it seems they don't need too much time to steal something.

Yep. Nothing much, working now but wishing I could make gold in UO.
Where are you located?

10 stones is the limit for thieves, actually.
You can lock or Magic Lock a chest, definitely. Or you can put stuff in a bag, open the bag, and then drop a bunch of obscuring items on top if it's image in your backpack - like robes, haystacks, etc.
Personally, on my dexer, I used to run around with a kryss and a war fork. I'd always have one in my hand, usually the kryss, so if I knew I was encountering a thief I'd put the war fork in my reagent bag behind as many reagents and potions as I could. Then double-click and follow.
Most thieves have the following skills:
Magery
Hiding
Stealth
Snooping
Stealing
Which only leaves room for two other GM skills, between Wrestling, Meditation, Evaluate Intelligence, Tracking, Resist, etc. If they don't have wrestling, they'll be dead almost immediately. Your worst-case scenario is probably Wrestling and Meditation, because they can sit there and Mini-Heal themselves over and over while you hit them only 50% of the time.
If you yourself are a mage, just keep your distance and fling some spells at them

Very very few thieves have resist.

Keep regs inside a locked chest (keep the key either in the bank or in your restock chest at home), put everything else inside a pouch underneath the locked chest. I usually keep my gold on top of these two as well, for obscurity. Separate bandages into stacks of 5-10, and carry 60+.
Although razor's steal by type macros (commonly used by pvp thieves) can still snag some of the items buried down in the bag, I've only ever noticed it steal bandages.

This sounds like a good idea. Will try it.
I actually ran into town and started fighting him, it negated most of his magery. Almost killed him and would have if his friend hadn't shown up to heal.

Collect a couple newbied death robes to throw over locked containers, leaving at least one unlocked you leave partially exposed that is tinker trapped. Newbied items cannot be stolen and cannot be moved in order to target steal.
You can also make a few/several stacks of bandages and regs. You can even have 50 stacks of 2 bandages to make every steal attempt at your bandages pocket lint loot.

Now they can't target steal but can they still steal randomly?

they can steal randomly if anything is left out but with a few newbied items deterring them and not being able to access your locked boxes it maybe they get foolish enough to try to do a snoop steal to see what they can take...thats why you have the tinker trap partially exposed to make it look like you made the attempt to hide it.

Ah. Do you know where can I get one of the deadly tinker trapped boxes?

I can make them but I am not on right now and I am going somewhere soon. Most of the time I shop I go to $$$ Rune Tower or the Vendors surrounding YewGate first out of convenience. If you can't seem to find any check the trade forums. I would check out your purchase with someone with at least minimal detect hiding after buying.

Being I macroed it to GM on everyone I have it on it's hard to say. 50 is more then sufficient to be sure but I would try it a few times to make sure if it doesnt pop up as trapped especially if you have like 30 or so it might be more then a few times.
