So, I usually post here instead of Bugs because I don't know if this is accurate or a bug... but...
If you are wearing an item with a protection charge, you cannot cast Protection on yourself ("it will not adhere"). But, someone else can cast it on you just fine.
Additionally, some protection items use a charge when I log in with them on (I see the blue sparklies and hear the noise associated with it too). But some do not - you just log in and have them on and the boosted AR, without using a charge.
Use Protection!

It is not accurate and is a UOSA bug.
The only known protection bug in era was the ability to arm a shield THEN arm a protection charm and parry would go up exactly 9.1 points as well as the AR boost.
