Research into Shipwrecks (MIBs)

I wanted to know what kind and how much loot I could expect from a MIB I fish up. I haven't really seen any detailed information on this anywhere. Would I be crazy to buy an MIB at 2.5k? Crazy not to buy one at 1.5k? I have no idea. So I decided to conduct my own research on what you can find. I set sail on my boat to 100 MIB locations and reeled in the treasure to see what I could find. After much sorting, reselling, and identifying, I came to these results:

720 gems -- Sold

195,000 gold from chests

65,000 gold from selling junk weapons, armor, and gems to NPCs

20,000 gold from selling scrolls to a scribe friend. (You'd get more from a NPC probably)

Total: 280,000 gold and lots of items and resources.

------------------------------------------------------------

My next post below is going to be asking how to price much of this. From what I have pulled together, it would seem like its a steal to buy the MIBs for up to 5k each. Keep in mind though that selling your MIBs puts the cash into your hands instantly. It takes time to fish up the MIBs, sort the loot, identify the loot, liquidate junk, then auction/vendor the decent stuff. That is time where a fisher could be pulling up more MIBs. I'd say 2k or less per MIB is pretty fair given the amount of work here.

Basic Pricing Guide

I understand that an item sells for whatever a person is willing to pay for it. However, you may wait a month if you sell too high, and someone may buy in a second and resell if you sell too low. I am looking for the average price for items, and i'm willing to sort of average what people think items are worth.

Imagine you have acquired the following weapons below, how would you price them? I would try to come up with an objective price by putting together a variety of factors.

Weapons

Damage:
Ruin (+1): + ____ gold?
Might (+3): + ____ gold?
Force (+5): + ____ gold?
Power (+7): + ____ gold?

Eminently accurate (+15): + ____ gold?
Exceedingly accurate (+20): + _____ gold?
Supremely accurate (+25): + _____ gold?

Durability:

Substantial (+20 item hp): + ____ gold?
Massive (+30 item hp): + ____ gold?
Fortified (+40 item hp): + _____ gold?
Indestructable (+50 item hp): + _____ gold?

Weapon Type: (Add up total from damage, tactics, and durability to multiply times modifier)
Popular weapon: x ____ modifier?
Unrepairable popular weapon: x ____ modifier?
Unpopular weapon: x ____ modifier?

Armor

Armor factor:
Defense (+5): + ____ gold?

Substantial (+10 item hp): + ____ gold?
Massive (+15 item hp): + ____ gold?
Fortified (+20 item hp): + _____ gold?

Armor Type: (Add up total from armor factor and durability to multiply times modifier)
Heater/Metal Kite Shield: x ____ modifier?
Plate gorget/gloves/helmet: x ____ modifier?

Nice work. Out of curiosity, did you try to sail out to an MiB and not have it come up? I was out fishing last night and randomly pulled up a chest. Figured someone popped the MiB and I happen to sail over it.

You can't pull up a chest unless you have the MIB message on you. I have pulled up another MIB/Map when i was pulling up MIB preloot though.

Added pricing section. I tell you what. If someone who regularly sells these items answers my pricing questions, i'll think of some sort of cash or item reward. I'm also hoping to hear from more than one person. I'd like to see different views on pricing and find some common ground.

Weird :) It works like t-maps. You can't go to a t-map site and just dig one up. It requires the t-map. The same works for MIBs. You need the MIB on you for that spot. Your case, however, I have no idea. Truly freakish.

So $280k and you haven't sold any weapons/armor/items yet?

So grand total could be $500k+?

Epic post man!

I'm going to try to tackle one of these at a time and see how it works to price something. I tried going out into the world and looking at how items are priced. Very often I found that some attributes are never considered, and that the prices were very inconsistent even on the same vendor.

Weapons

Damage:
Ruin (+1): + 25 gold
Might (+3): + 100 gold
Force (+5): + 350 gold
Power (+7): + 1,500 gold
Vanquishing (+9): + 4,000 gold

Tactics:
Accurate (+5): + 100 gold
Surpassingly accurate (+10): + 200 gold
Eminently accurate (+15): + 500 gold
Exceedingly accurate (+20): + 1,500 gold
Supremely accurate (+25): + 4,000 gold

Durability:
Durable (+10 item hp): + 50 gold
Substantial (+20 item hp): + 100 gold
Massive (+30 item hp): + 200 gold
Fortified (+40 item hp): + 350 gold
Indestructable (+50 item hp): + 550 gold

Weapon Type: (Add up total from damage, tactics, and durability to multiply times modifier)
Halberd: x 2 modifier (x9 if two dmg mods, x10 if perfect)
Above average weapon (PvP worthy): x 1.5 modifier (x4 if two dmg mods, x5 if perfect)
Average weapon (PvE worthy): x 0.7 modifier (x1 if two dmg mods)
Below average weapon (lol): x 0.1 modifier (x0.25 if two dmg mods)

After Weapon Modifiers:
Silver (x2 undead): +15% to PvE weapons after all modifiers.
Ghoul's Touch (para): +3-13% (charge/3 = %) to PvP weapons after all modifiers.
Thunder (lightning): +3-13% (charge/3 = %) to PvP weapons after all modifiers.
Daemon's/Dragon's Breath (fireball): +3-13% (charge/3 = %) to PvP weapons after all modifiers.
Wounding (harm): +1-5% (charge/8 = %) to PvP weapons after all modifiers.
Evil (curse): +1-5% (charge/8 = %) to PvP weapons after all modifiers.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Example items:

Halberd:
  • Indestructable, +25 Vanq. Halberd = 85,550
  • Vanq. Halberd = 8,000
Above average:
  • Indestructable, +25 Vanq. Kryss = 42,750 (Too low; consider 50k at least)
  • Vanq. kryss = 6,000 (Good)
  • +10 silver fortified bardiche of power = 9,430
  • +20 power qstaff with 27 charges of harm = 9,800 (way too low, consider 20k)
Average:
  • Indestructable, +25 Vanq. Axe = 8,550 (too high)
  • Power mace = 1,050 (price fine)
  • +20 power Axe with 27 charges of harm = 3,270
Below average:
  • Indestructable, +25 Vanq. Hammerpick = 2,100 (Never worth anything?)
  • Force gnarled staff = 35
Can someone tell me if these example prices are sound or crazy?

Thanks to Caswallon and kabal for helping me work on this.

I hate to bring up an old post, but:

I did an MiB and got the chest. I'm usually watching tv when i'm doing MiB's and i didn't notice that i had got the chest, so i hit the fishing button again. I looked down and noticed that the chest was at my feet and i pulled out another pillow. "hmm?" I kept fishing and i got another chest.....

Also, sometimes i'll do a chest - get a bone pile - get a painting - then get an MiB?

Weird.

I appreciate it!

But weird.

All I know is I'm about to start fishing. What is needed to do a MiB or get one besides fishing and a boat?
