LockPicking

So, finally i started my fisherman/treasure hunter!
I started with 50 Lockpicking...

To start raising this skill you will need some lockable boxes made by someone who has 50 tinker skill. You may try to find them on vendor, but it is easier to create a new char with 50 carpentry and 50 tinkering.
I made 4 lockable boxes for my treasure hunter, bought some lockpicks and started writing my macro...

Macro to raise lockpicking:

Double Click on the key from the first box
Wait for Target
Absolute Target (the first box)
Pause 1.00sec

Double Click on the key from the second box
Wait for Target
Absolute Target (the second box)
Pause 1.00sec

Double Click on the key from the third box
Wait for Target
Absolute Target (the third box)
Pause 1.00sec

Double Click on the key from the fourth box
Wait for Target
Absolute Target (the fourth box)
Pause 1.00sec

Double Click (lockpicks)
Wait for Target
Absolute Target (our first box)
Pause 4.00sec

Double Click (lockpicks)
Wait for Target
Absolute Target (second box)
Pause 4.00sec

Double Click (lockpicks)
Wait for Target
Absolute Target (third box)
Pause 4.00sec

Double Click (lockpicks)
Wait for Target
Absolute Target (fourth box)
Pause 4.00sec

-------------------------------------------------------------

That's it. after this, i let my char at home macroing...
i dont really remember how much time it took to reach 74.4 (real), but the problem is that the skill stopped raising.

To continue raising you need to get some GM locked boxes. In my case, i found a vendor, near the Vesper Bank, that was selling them. With them and this macro you will reach 95.0 of the skill. After this you will need to start digging treasures and/or open treasure chests in dungeons to raise lockpicking...

P.S.: for those who is looking for 75 tinker made locked boxes on trading forum, dont bother, just get 50 and GM made and start working ;)

P.P.S.: sorry for my english...

Any estimate on about how many picks it took to 95?

I have taken to 95, 3 chars and if I remember it was 500-600 each. I would certainly agree with your estimate MamoMT. I also have a tinker that made a few thousand training tinkering, so picks were easily available.

It may have seemed that way, but I'm not sure that that's accurate. I had a gm carto lockpick and i certainly didn't spend months. Maybe three weeks

OK, here is my lockpick consumption from 0-95.

0-30 bought up the skill from a tinker

30-38 I used 100 picks on tinker skill 30 locked boxes

38-76 I used 372 picks on tinker skill 50 locked boxes

76-95 I used 434 picks on GM tinker locked boxes

76-95 I used 434 picks on GM tinker locked boxes
30-about 45 I used 7 tinker skill boxes (made a char with 1 pt, but adjusted was 7)
45 ish to 55 I used 30 skill
55-80 I used 50 skill tinker boxes
80-95 I used 92 tinker.

My gains seemed fine. Because my lockpicking was higher on lower level containers I didn't break as many. I started a third account with different tinker skills (7,30, and 50) and already had a 92 when I made the chests. I can only assume this is why my lockpick usage was lower. It may have taken me longer to do it this way though.

Mine was about 8 solid hours of macroing all together. Luckily I have a miner who needed to train tinkering, so lockpicks weren't a problem. I did seem to go through much more than usual though.

Way easier way to do this...

Get 1 box at desired level written above and lock it.

Use lockpick on box
pausewait .5 secs
If sysmessage The lock quickly yields to your skill.
Use key on lockbox
pausewait (think it was 4 or 5 secs)

Of course its said differently in razor, but you get the idea.

Here was my Razor Macro:

Double Click (Item Type Lockpick)
wait for target
Absolute target (set the locked chest)
Pause 4.00 sec

If (system message "the lock quickly") ... from the lock quickly yields to your skill
Double Click (set the chest key)
Wait for target
absolute target (the chest)
pause .25
end if

If (system message "this does not appear") ... from this does not appear to be locked
Double Click (set the chest key)
Wait for target
absolute target (the chest)
pause .25
end if

The last if command is somewhat unneccesary. It was enacted usually only if after logging in and the chests were unlocked, it automatically locked it. I put that in because I had started the macro one day and left my computer to come back to no gain because the chest wasn't locked. I could have left out it out simply by paying a little closer attention .

I have 30 lock picking and i tried picking a 50/50 killed red chest for gain. I get the system message "you don't see how that lock can be manipulated".

How do i fix this, or should I keep trying and skill will eventually rise? Do i need to find a chest from 30/30 skill crafted?

Any info ill help,

I had to tweak the macro a little to get mine to work. this is what I came up with. . .

Double Click (Lockpick) Convert to DClickbyType
Wait for Traget
Absolute Target
Pause 4.00sec
If (sysmessage "the lock quickly yields to your skill")
Double Click (key) I did'nt convert to dclick
Wait for target
Absolute Target
Pause .25sec
End If

I first tried to pick the locked chest, then even though it didn't open i used the key to unlock it. I found that when I picked the lock and used the key to lock it in the macro, it wouldn't work and kept saying "that doesn't appear to be locked". This works well for me, i couldn't get the other macros to work.

double click key
wait for target(edit timeout 1s)
target box
wait .5s
double click lockpicks
wait for target(edit timeout 1s)
target box
wait 4s
loop

If the key is in the box and the box is locked, you can't use the key so the macro won't unlock the box.
