can you use Barrel Staves recovered from a shipwreck to make kegs?

Crap if i would have known this I would have kept all of those staves for my own kegs -_-

if this is true .. then something is broken
I tried and it seems that they are not recognized at all. the menu does not show kegs in the list. had to make my own staves
