Event Gates and Trades

I was waiting for a CTF to start and someone was asking for a refresh pot so I gave him one.
It then occurred to me that if someone wanted to do a completely secure (and inaccurate) trade, all they would have to do is wait for an event to start, go in the event gate, and trade in the trammel zone where nothing can be stolen, etc.
I figure this is pretty inaccurate. Should the ability to trade items be disabled in event gate areas?
