I'm wanting to make a fisherman

this is what i think i need so far...

med
item id
fishing

what else should i take?

Is your only goal to fish? Do you also want to do some PvM out on the high seas or what? If that's the case, maybe go..

Cooking
Magery
Meditation
Resist
Eval
Wrestling

Cartography may be useful because you will pull up some maps. Lock picking would be a decent skill, too. Taste ID is a complete waste of time, unless that's your plan. If that's the case, more power to you.

Resist isn't too bad to have. Don't need to GM it or anything, but the occasional Water Elemental might surprise you once in awhile with a double E-Bolt.

What are the benefits to fishing? It's quite hard to GM, wouldn't it not be better off to just go ahead of make a t-map'r instead?

Definitely. Only reason to go for a fisher is if you really want a bazillion "recovered from a shipwreck" boxes and paintings for your house.

Im confused. I thought the only way to get Tmaps was through Fishing, and killing stuff.

Can you use tradeskills to make them too?

You're correct the only sources are loot from mobs and fishing. By "t-map'r" I believe he meant make a character that can recover land treasure chests, but that still doesn't give you a source of maps beyond going out and killing stuff.

No, you can only get treasure maps as loot from mobs, but fishing is different than treasure maps. Fishing gives you MIB's (message in a bottle) but it only goes to like level 3, so I was just curious if its worth trying to gm that skill.

Ahhh ok.

You can also get Tmaps too. So far I have only got lvl 1 maps, but I have heard the deep sea serps also drop higher lvls.

You can only fish up lvl 1 map's, but alatar is correct, the MiB's range from lvl 1 to 3 chests.

you prolly know better, but i've gotten two lvl 2 tmaps off of serpents in the last two days.

Sea serps do drop lvl 2 maps, but only as a regular kill-a-mob random map drop. If you get the "you fish up a piece of parchment" message, it's a lvl 1.

I got a level 1 and 2 off of one sea serpent i fished up. So somethings up hehe

How dangerous are MIBs here? I used to use my bard for fishing. Overkill?
