An Idea *POLL*

The OFFICIAL (and far simpler than what is listed here) System is here!

***Simplified System on the Second Page***

I and others have been contemplating creating a system for non-LEET pvp. The idea is basically this: We create two guilds. These guilds are at war. There are restrictions put on skills these characters can have and the equipment they can use. Again, the point is create a pvp environment that is both fun and different from the standard one (not to say there is anything wrong with the standard one). Below is a DRAFT of the rules we have so far come up with. What I want to know is how much interest there would be in such a system. The system would be subject to change as we discovered what worked and what didn't.

Do note that the original idea was for the Soapy Boners to be one of the two guilds. We have scrapped that in favor of creating another guild, so that the Boners may continue to focus on being annoying and harassing bards. So ignore references to the Soapy Boners. A different guild will take their place if this gets off the ground.

The Draft of the System:

1. Rules

1. All characters must conform to the restrictions on skills and equipment listed in the second section of this post (Skills and Equipment).

2. All players must make their characters public via MyUOSA.

3. Each player will be given a unique title of his or her choice.

4. Each guild will have a chosen battle cry. Macro it during combat!

5. Each guild will have a chosen color. Items of that color must be worn at all times. No items of different colors may be worn at any time, except death robes immediately upon death up until reequipping or otherwise returning to combat. (Death robed players are still fair targets, but wearing one will at least signal to others your newly resurrected status. Do not abuse that signal.)

5 .Each guild requires its members to have the same name. All players must have the exact name required for their respective guild, i.e., “Soapy Boner” or “Milk Bags”
- “Soapy Boner” is singular. “Milk Bags” is plural.
- Appropriate capitalization is required.
- Physical characteristics (clothing, sex, skin color, hairstyles and hair color) may be customized.

2. Skills and Equipment

Skills

The following skills are mandatory.

Swords or Macing (You can only have one of these two.)

Archery or Parry (You can only have one of these two.)

Tactics
Heal
Anatomy
Hiding

One Completely Optional Skill (Suggestions: Stealth, Magery, Tracking, Poisoning or Detecting Hidden)

FORBIDDEN SKILLS: Wrestling, Resisting Spells, Evaluate Intelligence, Meditation, Animal Taming

Spells and Equipment

FORBIDDEN SPELLS: Energy Bolt, Explosion, Flamestrike, Poison, Summon spells, Recall

FORBIDDEN WEAPONS: All fencing weapons, all two handed melee weapons, Heavy X-bow, bow, katana, broadsword, war ax

FORBIDDEN ARMORS/SHIELDS: All helmets, all metal and bone armor, heater shields, chaos and order shields

OTHER FORBIDDEN ITEMS: Potions (except nightsight and lesser poison), mounts, trapped pouches, all exceptional weapons/armor/shields, all magic weapons/armor/shields

POISON: A weapon can only be poisoned with lesser poison.

seems like waaaaaaay to many rules why not just promote order/chaos fights to build on existing system

Because I don't particularly enjoy the existing system. This creates an alternative. Not really very many rules. Five plus equipment restrictions. Obviously this won't be something everyone will want to do, just looking to see if there are enough that would.

I have a radical suggestion. Why not remove the restrictions that are common place in leet pvpers, use your idea to teach the non-leet to use these spells/skills/items effectively in combat, and increase some of the competition on the server.

Because I don't care about the quality of LEET pvp on this server.

There are too many rules.

Makes it so no magery is used and it would be worth it to me. That or cap mage/resist at 50 each and let people use magic how they want.

I like the idea (I already have a player like this for some O/C townie action that I haven't finished yet), but it seems too complicated towards the end.

Regarding complexity: What if I were able to get spellbooks with only the permitted spells. One less thing to remember. And we could stock guild houses with only permitted equipment.

I wanted magery to remain a real force, but to be different. A person that takes magery has access to some cool stuff that will work wonders against people with 0 magery and 0 resist: blades, MS, EQ. And the support spells would be useful as well: Arch Cure would actually have some value for instance. There would be a real need for each team to have mages, but for there only to be a few. Mages would be substantially slower with weapons due to the need for good INT, at least if they want to use spell beyond level 1 - 4.

One thing to note is that we would organize days and time where battles would be set up, so it wouldn't just be log in and hope someone else is on too (though you could do that). This would be a side thing, not a replacement for the things you normally do.

The problem I see with that is still twofold.

You're still opening yourself up to someone choosing to go outside the system and it can create an issue of he said/she said when trying to get to the bottom of it.

And you're also removing a lot of free will from the characters. Have limitations, but not ones which take any uniqueness from the characters. Limit the skills, which can be easily verified, and leave people to play how they want within the limitations.

The more rules you impose, the less people I see joining in.

Yes. This is a real problem. I was hoping for two things to help: (i) few people cheating because there wouldnt be much of a point and (ii) screenshots capturing guiltly types. Those aren't perfect solutions, but such is the nature of UO.

You have a good point, but I still think forcing people outside their normal habits will make for more interesting gameplay.

sounds like fun, although i dont particularly understand the no fencing rule as well as the ONLY xbows being allowed rule.

Not at all flaming/trolling, just curious. please elaborate.
