UO Second Age

So, I'm new and everything works great BUT I can't seem to open up my bank, talk to vendors, etc. Other players see my type and respond, but the game doesn't? I tried changing my text color, etc. through options and it stays in that ugly newbie yellow. I've tried resynching and logging out and back in.

Any ideas? I don't want to give up on this just yet
