They "quit" UO, but can't give up intangible objects like houses, so they continue to play anyway to keep refreshing the houses because they've associated some amount of value to the item even though it is useless to them.
aka Hoarding.

He did really well in this game and earned a couple of castles and keeps in short order.
I think he lost interest when his castle fell while on vacation.
He was a good player and helpful as a neighbor.

He had more then one castle, and when that castle fell I obtained it. Not to mention there wasnt a single item inside it.
