Exactly. In theory, a no macro server would be awesome. In practice though:
1) Like Nightshark said, most of us are adults now and have stupid jobs that take up all of our gaming time. When I was in high school I could choose not to do my homework and play UO nonstop with minor repercussions. Now, if I just chose to ignore my responsibilities, I'd probably be divorced, and I'd be fired and potentially lose my car, house, and RL l33t gear.
2) If the server was just starting, banning macroing would be great, because everyone would be on the same page. But since it's pretty established, like everyone's said, there's lots of 7x GMs running around out there. I started playing UO again for two reasons. A) because I love the game, and B) because my husband and I were looking for something fun to do together. It's absolutely NOT fun to get ganked every time you walk out of town. And in most cases, to GM some sort of fighting skill you WILL need to leave. Collin has never played UO, and if he is just experiencing the crappy dying part, I don't think he will want to stick with it. So in the interest of keeping us playing together, I will macro us both up enough so that we can at least defend ourselves. This DOESN'T mean we're going to sit around and macro up all 7 skills, it just means maybe 1 or 2.
I also miss the days of grinding away, and getting all excited when you went up to 60 Magery (from your starting 50). But I don't think we'd be able to emulate that and keep a player base, just because of the above reasons, and because it's been so long since ANY major shard (at least any I've heard of) have done it.
