This problem is the problem with the shard in a microcosm.
On OSI, 5% of players were grievers and 95% just normal players. Here you have 95% grievers and 5% "normal" players. Given the extreme bloodlust people have on this shard to be absolute dickheads I'm really not surprised everybody wants to keep it in. It's just the way this shard is.
Edit: Maybe I should rephrase "everybody" to "a lot of people".
