UO Second Age

Its easier to get attention when your a drama-queen about everything. IPY has "re-invented" itself tons of time and the admin is infamous but thats what gets it attention.

If Derrick and the gang went all bad-boy gangsta, but kept the stability; UOSA would be brimmin' bro.

ipy is popular becuase its t2a (sort of) with a good pvp system.

You do know that pvp players are in the minority of UO players; right?...

But just like the IPY admin, they are the loudest...

Theyre the minority on here but not on most other servers.

I play here because of nostalgia, which is honestly a pretty bad reason to do anything. It keeps me going though. My favorite time in UO was the end of t2a and into UO:R. While I enjoyed some of the pvp mechanics of UO:R a lot more, the only UO:R shard I know of is Hybrid which has way more going against it than that one pro.

So...while this shard would not be my optimal shard (a one facet UO:R shard would be) it's the best available option.

Unless the "majority" of the population are out in the field fighting, which in the case of a server with around 1000 users would need atleast 500 or more simulteanously out fighting, it would be called a "minority".

We're referring to two different groups. Me = whole pvp encompassed (pks, o/c, etc etc) You just people who only pvp.

Either way it's a stupid discussion and I don't really care.

It's just faster imo and there's less luck in hally swings, but in the end it all comes down to opinion so you'd have to try it to see if you think it's better or not.

Because i have no life and when i kill someone with a trapped box it makes me feel like im doing something productive irl

Dex based healing, defensive wrestling, para/conc/disarm attacks, poisoning/alchemy/inscription magery bonuses. . . But mostly a variety of templates. 'Course it's all a matter of opinion anyway (and I do play here for other reasons.)

Thread isn't really addressed to me as I don't play here any more, but this is the only good UO shard out there.

By good I mean:
Professionally run and maintained.
Feels 'right' - this is the only player-run shard I've ever logged in to and could have believed that I was playing 'real' UO.
Good population.
Based around a good era.
Has the nostalgia factor - reminds me so much of my early days in the game.

It's competition:

IPY2 = ridiculous. Insanely slow skill gain. Moongates to town in all dungeons. No mounts. Stupid new systems like Paladins and O/C/B that do not work. Az theorised about UO for so many years that you'd think he might have worked out that player driven conflict drives the game much better than controlled faction-like PvP systems.

Hybrid = pathetic. Buy your items via paypal, run around wearing neon pink and PvP in an arena. JUST WHAT UO SHOULD BE.

Are there any other big player-run shards around?

This is the UO that I played. I started playing mid 1998 and played through 1999 until I left home for school. It was the ultimate game and time period to me. I returned to the game briefly for about a month in 2002 and it was a different game. There were plusses and minuses to the changes, but it was not the game that I had played.

I just started here, but I've been through my fair share of T2A shards. There are two basic premises to why I'm here.

1. T2A is the greatest era of UO, and UO is the greatest MMO game ever. If you disagree with either of those, odds are you're not reading this post. But if you are... you're wrong.

2. So far, no shard I've played has gotten it right.

Every other T2A shard I've played has been either riddled with bugs, badly designed, poorly run, or some combination of the above. The most important things to me are that the mechanics are correct and the staff leaves the game well enough alone once things are running smoothly. After that, a healthy population is essential... and that's it. I haven't had a chance to PvP with a finished character yet so I don't know whether the mechanics are correct here, but just from reading I can see that the effort is being made. If I find something that's a deal breaker for me, and I can prove it's not accurate, I genuinely believe it will be corrected. And so far, that's good enough for me. I look forward to getting some more game time in so I can really see what this shard is about.

I'd like to add to my post that players with this type of attitude are also why I play here.
