hey nerd i want insurance on this shard plz kthnxehafh wrote:player killers interfere with my gameplay/dungeon farming, should they be ridden?
no....
there shouldn't be ANY safe zones in uo.
it seems pretty carebear there's a safe zone where people can make silver.
the playerbase is limited enough, we don't need lazy mode farming.
most of the people complaining are rich in game, and could afford to die
every day. oh but boo hoo, we need to be greedy and hoard items!![]()
use your mega pk brains to come up with a fix, it would be more fun
if you didn't have to whine to staff. a personal triumph even!

I'm telling Boarder Patrol that you are a murderer sympathizer.Telamon wrote:Correct me if I am wrong, but how exactly would you allow for deep stat reds to participate in an event if you removed the event gates. They would risk stat loss just to get to the sign up sheet, and would lose any ability to watch the tournament/event in any level of safety.
Whatcha gonna do when he comes for you?

Re: Event gate interferences.
Wait, those event things I keep seeing take place in TRAMMEL?
I just started on this server to play in a world without it. I played siege for years and was hoping this server would be similiar. It already bugs me that we can make infinite gold selling to vendors but there is TRAMMEL?
Motivation to play just hit zero.
and I had just started too.

Re: Event gate interferences.
Not exactly. The events occur in a room that is 'trammelized'. In other words, specators can't attack each other, interfere, steal, etc. And in the 'waiting room' before the event its trammel.Proteus wrote:Wait, those event things I keep seeing take place in TRAMMEL?

But its not trammel in the sense of a duplicate facet. You can't go place houses, hunt in dungeons, etc. There is a fairly big push to have these automated events removed...or at least revamp them.
Re: Event gate interferences.
Simple fix...just make ALL event gates red like the CTF ones and there wont be any confusion as to what type of gate you are entering...
Re: Event gate interferences.
Well that doesn't sound terrible but it does come across as a double standard.
During the 2nd age I was a heavy role-player and those events run by seers were constantly assaulted by pk's but that to me is was made it interesting.
I don't see why an exception is made for these events if it isn't made for simple things like cutting a stack of 3000 cloth into bandaids in one click instead of needing an hour long macro for it. Or a plethora of other quality of life updates that could be made that appear to get poopooed because it's not era accurate. A safe area for events like this is about as era accurate as necromancy. I don't like the idea of these things disrupting player events. Gates opening up in the middle of a chaos/order battle where they cannot fight on the other side screams to me of trammel behavior.
It's the principle of the thing for me.

Re: Event gate interferences.
It certainly is a bit. The idea, as I recall it being stated, was that early on in the shards history there just wasn't the money or time to hire a large seer staff like OSI had. Further, the more staff you have the more trust you have to put in people. As thus, the automated events were meant to simulate a seer's event. The idea being that a seer could host a CTF game each day...but why not have hte seer actually be a computer script.Proteus wrote:Well that doesn't sound terrible but it does come across as a double standard.

The idea makes sense to me and im not entirely against it. Further, the lack of being able to interfere does not really concern me a ton. What bothers me are the following:
1. Free prizes. The event system is effectively a safe, no risk, no loss way to farm gold. Anything in UO should have risk. Either equipment lost or an entry fee, etc. THe events should not be producing prizes out of thin air.
2. The rule set. The events are too limiting. The tournaments cater, almost exclusively, to hally mages. Poison is banned, many potions are banned, magic weapons and armor are banned. I can understand baning magic weapons/armor...especially if you dont' lose them on death. But to ban everything else is silly. At the very least you should be allowed to use potions or poison if you have the skill. Personally, I would make tournaments full loot and very relaxed rules. Thus if you want to try and win the tournament with that vanquishing hally...fine...but you are gonna risk losing it when/if you die.
3. Remove the event 'shops'. While I get that its nice to be able to bank for a tournament or ctf or purchase some last minute regs...there are plenty of other banks you can do it in. People who compete don't need to be spoon fed. And there doesn't need to be trammel banks.
Re: Event gate interferences.
Ugh you can bank there? Poor thieves.
And yeh this server seems to cater to mages period.
I was a dexxer in that age and didn't really have good chance of winning but could at least put up a fight with potions and poison. Ugh.
Sigh. I was looking forward to a dexxer and preferred magery once I've been around a long time, have a house and my dexxer pimped. Looks like you need magery on this server just to exist, and if it's required for carebear events..
Ugh.

Well, you can only get to the trammel bank when event gates are open, or if you log out there.Proteus wrote:Ugh you can bank there? Poor thieves.

As for catering to mages, def. Not counting the current bugs (whatever those are), dexxing is not quite right here yet. Many dexxers have been trying to get it more accurate but there is much resistance and its hard to find sources that don't just get discounted.
Either way, the orcs are probably the only group left that contains pure dexxers with no magery. We do okay when we have numbers and a fortified location. If we are in the middle of wide open areas, getting attacked by all sides, and the people are bent on bringing 20 dragons, we may have a little more difficulty. Though we succeed due to tactics and teamwork, not a balanced play field.
Re: Event gate interferences.
Man thanks much for the help and your posts. I'm going to heavily consider just rerolling now.

Re: Event gate interferences.
If you do, def plan your template. I highly suggest 50 healing to start due to slowness and bandage cost. Weapon skills, tactics, and anatomy can all be gained cheaply and relatively quickly.Proteus wrote:Man thanks much for the help and your posts. I'm going to heavily consider just rerolling now.
Re: Event gate interferences.
Yeh I find bandaids easy to gather so I harvested them, made a tailor crafter to sell fancy shirts, and got a few k to start out with. Bought my skills, camped and played a harp to hit stat cap, then macroed fighting skills to gm wih anatomy in the macro. I haven't played UO in years but within 3 days my dxxer had gm swords, near max tactics and hiding, 80+ anat and stealth, healing at 59, and still rockin 50 resist as well as 100 100 25 stats.Ronk wrote:If you do, def plan your template. So I'm good to go on getting a character started, it's getting the funds to get a home I'm more concerned about needing crafter or Mage to reach.

Re: Event gate interferences.
Proteus, there's still a lot of fun to be had here.
it's definitely the most era accurate server around,
and doesn't have all the neon crap all the other places do.
should at least stick around for a month to see
what kinda trouble you can cause :]

Re: Event gate interferences.
Oh i decided I'll be sticking around. Gonna make a bard/Mage to get started off with some actual cash, who will slowly evolve to a full mage I imagine.
Even with the inconsistencies this is till the most amazing shard I've seen since UO:r.
