Also, running around on foot killing spawn here and there (which is what people did in the 90s to increase skill) will drop stam.

Also also, get in IRC.

But I don't play UO, so what do I know?
Stam wouldn't be dropped. Food is useless.

Panthor, you asked for statistically significant differences. Generally, that means p < .05. As in, 5% of the time you will see one character do much better than the other one, and you'll conclude the difference is significant, when in fact it's purely randomness and luck. So, since I need the eating one to be the one that does better, there's a 2.5% chance. So, not a great likelihood, but I'd be willing to set up the test on the 2.5% chance I get all your stuff, and the 97.5% chance I don't get anything.

LAWYERED.

An analogy:

Faust and I are the historians claiming that people believed in God because they would pray and the sick would get better even though God never actually touched anyone (because he's imaginary).

Panthor is the angry guy going "NO THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE GOD DOESN'T EXIST"

Dearest Panter: No one here is claiming eating food alone helped weapon skills increase. We're merely postulating that people who here running around trying to get their weapon skills to go up would gain faster if they ate food as running around decreases stamina. Derp.

Also if anyone is suggesting that food alone helps then you are entirely correct in your verbal bashing.

No one said that people didn't believe it. In fact I said I loved that people would believe it despite all evidence.

Who cares if they believed it? It's not true. It's not even true a little. It's entirely untrue. Completely and utterly untrue.

Increasing stam wont help you with skill gains, cuz your stam isn't dropped from working any skills. Plain and simple.

Stop moving the goal line just so you can pretend you were 'technically correct'. Cause you're wrong all the way.

I don't know why this was made exactly, but when I google imaged "just the facts cat" this was on the first page. So I post it with the clear emotion of "Just the facts, ma'am" from a cat.

Panthor -

You are right, when MACROING skills on this server, without taking damage, your stamina will remain constant and you will swing at the same rate, thus gain skill at the same rate, whether or not you eat food.

BUT... this "rumor" started before MACROING was the fad. People, such as myself, actually walked around fighting things to GM skills. While I am not sure the skill gain was significantly higher, there is no way you can argue against having full stamina causes you to swing faster, therefor gaining skill faster.

Your little challenge of macroing up two characters while one eats food is retarded. Try this - macro two dexers, but give one 25 stam and the other 100 stam, then see who hits GM first. The answer is obvious. Before power gaming, this would have been the difference between a warrior running around with low stamina since they were not eating vs. one with full stamina.

Skill gain was not faster.

Most people would eat food before doing any sort of skill training to the point of being full, sometimes to the point of being stuffed - although there was superstition that being "stuffed" was detrimental to skill gain so not always.

This would eliminate the small potential benefit in replenishing stamina when low.

Of course, theres no need to explain that. You're all perfectly aware that food as no impact on skill gain. You just think I'll give up before you, thus you'll have last word and win. Good luck with that.

I have seen no evidence that being "full" affects skill-gain, but it might do so indirectly:

If I receive a disproportionate amount of failures in skill use (this can be anything: missing swings at mobs, fizzling spells, training a skill; it can be difficult or mundane), this is often a reminder that I'm hungry;

99 times out of a hundred, I'll be rather hungry and, when I eat myself up to full, my string of failures disappears.

Eating might therefore assist skillgain indirectly by reducing failures.

From the UOSA Wiki:
Hunger Points

Every player has hunger points. These determine if you are able to eat a food item when attempted. Eating items will deplete hunger points until the character becomes full. Once a character becomes full, that character will not be able to eat any more until more hunger points are gained. Hunger points can be gained by losing health points and regenerating them over time. Eating food refreshes stamina and gives a boost to passive health regeneration (roughly 6 seconds for 1 hit point when full, compared to roughly 20 seconds per 1 hit point when hungry).
According to this information, eating also increases passive health regeneration by quite a bit.
Specifically, when training magery on yourself in a house, this potentially has the chance of very definitely increasing skill gains, especially those without healing skill or a second account healing the character training magery.

Keeping this in mind, I do believe eating would help one benefit in the area of certain skill gains.

Edit: I will add that any macro'd skill (i.e. poisoning, resist, magery, whatever) which contains a "Wait for hits >= XX" line could be sped up tremendously on a full stomach, possibly even on top of having a healer.

I like how no one will answer exactly when your stam ever drops when training skills that would be impacted by it.

Worst forum gank ever.
Casting Flame Strike on yourself reduces stamina. Not a whole lot but it does.

I'm not saying eating effects anything... I'm just pointing this out.
