I plan to start a heavy APK group once I get settled. I've already killed a couple reds myself. I used to be scared of those red griefers, TG, but now I realize how bad they actually are so now I stick around to fight the 1v1s (I still flee on the 4v1s though

I suggest you make a recall macro, and getting your wrestling up if you're a bard so you can recall out.
Hope to see you around.
Personally, I think that's the spirit.

Yeah hiding works wonders along with recalls and trapped pouches. I will have to agree some of the PKs out there are pretty pathetic. I can see PKs hunting high lvl dungeon areas (which are ghosted anyway) where the loot is but if your a PK who hunts lvl 1 & 2 dungeons areas for new players dry loot them and move on then you are worthless cowards who do nothing but hurt the shard and cause threads like this one. Real PKs pk for prophet and a head of bounty.
Most on here are right though. This is a game of risk and without risk it is no fun. You will find loser PKs and you will find PKs with class. Just depends. Seems like you just had bad luck with the loser kind. The longer you play the more you adapt. You shouldnt give up so easily.

I'm not sure why my post in this thread was unceremoniously deleted without notice, but it must've been a mistake given the content of the post, so I'm just going to repost the gist of it in case a specific word set off a mod:

This is the only worthwhile post in the entire thread. Every other post in the thread is essentially the community rubbing each others' backs while being oddly rude to someone who took the time to write a long feedback post, misapplying era accuracy left and right and just generally giving the shard and the people playing on it a pretty bad look.
I don't agree with the OP, but every time I read a thread like this (far too often in my short time here) it actively makes me want to stop doing anything to bring new players to the shard and just start running the old leEtPvP routine until either the shard or I is dead from overfishing.
With the exception of marmalade's post (which certainly contains equal amounts of back-rubbing given the ridiculous "duh" insinuation with which the list was posted) and the one I quoted, not one of the posts here is directed at the OP, but at Derrick. Most community members seem to have no faith in Derrick's ability to filter the bad from the good unless they pile on and really show him how mad it makes them feel that someone could say something so awful.
To tell you the truth about what I think, you guys have formed an insular and xenophobic community that isn't worth the bandwidth it uses to maintain itself. Just looking at the broad acceptance of the general conduct in this thread makes me want not to bring any of my friends here. If the shard weren't so awesome
in spite of the community, I'd be long gone myself.

the fact is 90% of people starting here have played UO before and know what sort of game it is. there are 100s of different things you could do to prevent yourself from dying before posting an novel on the forums complaining about there being too many pks. most people die alot before they figure these things out, and they learn from their mistakes. some people don't learn and have to be told. this isn't my opinion, or me trying to 'back rub' anybody. its simple fact and the nature of the game.
you can argue that certain aspects of the shard, such as multiple accounts, ghosting, easier skill gain, afk training etc. reduce risk for player killers, but they are still fundamentally high risk characters that are usually only successfully played by the most skilled and/or careful players. dying on a bard and losing 5k is fairly trivial compared to what a statloss pk would lose in loot/money and invested time if they were to die. please, understand my mild frustration when somebody moans about dying to high risk, extremely well equipped characters while playing a low risk, severely under equipped pvmer.

SO TRUE
This was my exact feelings....everytime I went out hunting in a dungeon it felt like I was getting pk'ed. I almost wanted to quit....then I remembered hey this is excatly what it was like in the old times. If you go to a dungeon you will most likely meet pk's (if I went mining from Brit through the pass towards the x-roads leading to yew and trinsic - a horde of pk's would stand at the end and try to grief miners :p)
Then a bunch of blue anti-pk's would come and they would battle it out.
Granted we need more anti-pk's to even it a bit out - but the risc of dungeon crawling will never disappear - you can minimize the risc by using the list of tricks mentioned, but the safest way is by far hunting with others. That way you can almost eliminate every solo pk'er out there.
Hang in there and remember you are NOT a whiner - you just needed to be toughened up again from all the care bear games that was introduced since UO

I'd like voodoo to explain why exactly the UOSA community is "xenophobic."
As far as I can tell, the UOSA community welcomes new players with fairly open arms.
I don't really understand how telling people ways in which to succeed on this shard is "xenophobic."

There's been a fine line walked in these threads lately between all out bashing of other players, and helpful discussion. I've deleted a few posts in this thread that served to do no more than throw mud at other posters. This post is preserved as an example of what does not qualify as discussion.

Honestly responding to Voodoo with a lengthy retort is a waste of time. And to single-out my post in a thread that is centered around narcissistic tendencies is laughable at best.
So one player threatens not to recruit new players? He is acting like a petulant child and my recommendation that he lurks more is valid.
But feel free to censor me instead of the person looking down on the ENTIRE player-base.

The only difference i see between THEN and NOW is basically that everyone knows how to play their classes almost professionally.
If you are new, this is going to be really hard on you compared to what it was back then.
Example: I used to farm liches in deceit, which was kinda a popular lil lich area. Once in a while i would be targeted by a notoriously badass pk named crossbow Jones on napa.. While he was good, i still had a chance and actually put up a fight. I still died because i was a newbie, but i put up a fight.
Here, it tends to be a lil different because the vets here are no where near as newbie as the vets of old T2A. If you are targeted and you don't run , as a newbie, you are probably gonna die. And if they don't kill you, they'll bring friends to kill you. I could see how a new person would feel bitter.
Answer: Find a pk guild and join that, they'll teach you to pvp simply because they need help and don't want new members getting them killed. You aren't going to find much assistance in a blue guild when it comes to actually playing....blue guilds tend to be inactive and don't do much with their members unless it's a event.

Secondage Discussion is For PR purposes to discuss the game and get valid feedback from the community. Obviously, taking new players with valid criticism down 4 notches publicly isn't good for PR.

This was valid criticism?

This forum isn't helpful to new players? That is absolutely ridiculous. Practically everything a new player needs to prosper in this game is available here and if information is missing more than likely it will be added by simply making a thread and asking for it.
He can spare us with the canards.
