Certainly when it comes to UO freeshards, this debate is eternal. I also agree that both sides of this are valid, but we have chosen a fairly narrow path; even admittedly with a little bit of wiggle room.

Reena Dae wrote:Seriously? You are worried about the bandage market drying up? NPCs sell regs at reasonable prices, yet reg vendors still exist. Cutting bandages one at a time was stupid then and it is stupid now. The only valid excuse anyone ever managed to come up with for keeping it the way it was up until they finally changed it was that bandages weigh more than cloth does.
there's a huge difference between regs and bandages.
at any given time, you can find 10's of 1000's of cloth on NPC vendors, which can easily be bought up to the 100's of 1000's. regs have a market cause they're semi-difficult to find - their prices get marked up. bandages have a market since they can be harvested and they're a pain to cut. they are not difficult to find.

This shard has already chosen the slippery slope. You've cherry picked the Nov 23, 1999 update: veterinary changes (and only part of them, since veterinary is still applying to humanoid creatures -- something Derrick is grudgingly fixing) and no weight limit on bank boxes, but no increased lockdowns/secures (because it isn't as easy to rob people this way? good reason). You have reduced reg costs on Fireball and Lightning because it is more convenient than having (or updating) a modified client or telling people to deal with the wrong reg costs in the spell book. You've got skillups on failures well past that initial 10 skill, which didn't exist until the whole powerhour thing. You've got sanctioned unattended macroing, which NEVER existed.
There's also no spawn blocking (and no server boundaries), while it is a good thing in my book, it is very inaccurate. Taming an animal is the same as killing it as far as the server is concerned. This has lead to Nightmares spawning incorrectly to artificially recreate their rarity.
Regarding bandages: this sort of attitude came up every time OSI added just about anything. Boo hoo, you're killing the rare market by adding a decorating tool, now my paint set won't be worth anything because it looks the same. I guess you've nailed that bit of era accuracy on the head.
You really should get rid of the "Suggestions" part of "Suggestions and Era Accuracy" forum description, as there is no such thing as suggestions that will be accepted that don't fit era accuracy.

This isn't true and clearly shown in the demo too.
The only thing < 10 skill yielded was values past the 0.1 standard increment.
Don't get me wrong but I completely agree with a lot of what you're saying here though...
The November 23rd '99 patch needs to go one way or the other for any consistency to be valid here. Updating the client 'officially' could pose legal issues.
Unattended macroing is a policy issues, not era accuracy. There is no 'real accurate' way to reproduce this rule since it varied from shard to shard. Staff on some shards were much more severe than others.

I consider the Nov 23, 1999 patch issue more a slight incline plane made out of sandpaper than a slippery slope.

im not saying change anything idk i just play here cause its freeeeee
I would like to play on a server thou that was set up like a test shard to were u can change your skills with a command i always thought back in the day that was the best pvp fun to be had back on seige before it became a regualr shard.
Cause if you was fighting a mage as a mage then if you ran out of mana in 5 seconds you could change skills to a dexxor and back again.
