BlackFoot wrote:Buying items for gold from an npc, that would otherwise be unobtainable presents a whole other serious of issues. It would need to be well thought out.
The difference is that silver has a force-limited output determined by the server, whereas gold is not... so the rate that black dye tubs are coming into the economy is currently limited.
Very few players are actually willing to pay enough gold to buy a black dye tub, or any of the other silver system rares (500k+)?). If we had a system where the items were buyable with gold, don't you think that would get people out farming more, and adding to the shard as a whole, rather than spending time in a trammel-like facet competing in artificial events?
I have not thought it out that much and can definitely see how it would not entirely be a good thing... but imo it's a better thing than events are.

They would certainly need to consider implementing more time towards looking for AFK farmers if that were the case. That is one of the main reasons I left UO to begin with was the fact that AFK resource gatherers were thrashing the economy and nothing was done to prevent it.

BlackFoot wrote:Another view of guild chat is that it removes the need for guilds to have a central meeting ground. They no longer need to group up to discuss issues but can continue to play the game as a solo player discussing with their guild as they play alone.
As of now no one in a guild needs to hang out where they might expect to meet up with their guildies. This may also help with the dead guild town conversations as guild chat deffinately leads away from grouping in these areas in game.
I do think that in the same patch where these chats are removed some work needs to be done on the Message bulletin boards to make them more useable.
It is also a bad argument that 'because of this is a certain way therefore its ok for this to be a certain way'.
The discussion on why somthing should remain should be focused on that subject.
This thread will turn into a 'if you do this than you have to do this' thread which wont end up being productive.
'Because I dont feel this is accurate than it is ok for this to be inaccurate' etc and we go all the way down the line until we have a custom built sphere shard
an example is 'because we cant remove barrels using pitchers of water, we should be able to have new crafting menus'
in an exagerated form its clear to see why these types of arguments dont hold water.
It will do nothing but make life more boring, and cause a spike in ventrillo downloads.

I fail to understand why guild chat was left in while party was removed.
For ease of communication (through inaccurate means)? Then why was party disabled?
Have both in, or remove both... Fail to understand how we went halfway on this one, although according to the goal there should really be only one way to go, no questions asked.
When did "accuracy" go out the window? Not trying to upset anyone, but as I understood it, that was the only deciding factor on this shard.

Party is another discussion altogether and you should make a new thread for it IMO.

No parties but guild chat stays?
That's silly.

I thought he said that party would be removed first because it was an easy change to make and less of an issue with players. I'm pretty sure that guild chat is still on the chopping block.
However, you're right. Both need to be gone.

Derrick wrote:Parties have been removed completely as they are absolutely not consistent with the T2A era. There was much consideration and discussion given to removing Guild Chat as well, but it has been decided that it will not be removed.
There are a few factors that played into our decision on guild chat, its convenience was not the deciding factor. We were able to modify guild chat so that it cannot be used to trigger the SysMsg condition in Razor. It is my view that guild chat is essentially a interface feature, and it does not now enable a player any ability which cannot be obtained through an allowed 3rd party application such as UO AutoMap. It also provides a partial substitute for the "UO Messenger" client feature which was available during our target time frame, but we are not able to provide due to it's removal from the UO Client itself.

I've read that, however there is no actual reason listed, so I'm forced to assume that the reason is that people didn't want to be "inconvenienced". If this is the case, allow us to cut multiple bandages, among a hundred other things.
It certainly wasn't a matter of time, removing Guild chat would be less work than removing parties, and both are extremely simple. Maybe I have missed a reason Derrick has given, but I don't think so, if I have please link.

Because at least 75% of the server would vanish.

There are exaggerations and then there are absurdities, and I think you're at your limit for the month.

Then what is your explanation for guild chat being overlooked and ultimately deemed acceptable in the T2A era?
Obviously EA wasn't the deciding factor.
Maybe this 15-page thread was?

Heh, sorry I accept your point. 75% was of course an exaggeration, but you are of course right and it is the same thing I was hinting at.
Public opinion was the factor on this decision, which is certainly unfortunate. I understand it is such a minor thing, but leaving it in basically says "Well there are some exceptions, T2A would be better with this : ..." and the big loop begins. I think one reason I am still here and many others as well is the no tolerance for exceptions that has been displayed over the years, which is initially hard to accept at first for most players but generally embraced after a few months of UOSA.
To continue this shard's great credibility, guild chat needs to be removed.

I will go a bit further and add that, in my opinion, a lot of players are "still here" because there are very few other options out there to choose from without having to be a part of somebodys pvp wish-list server, where everything is coded to suit the desires of the admin.
just my opinion though

It's era accurate for there to be only "one" UO option available!
Players stuck around for many years through thick and then in 1999 and UOSA is no different. Keep positive, adapt and learn a few things.
Also, there's many favorable PVP changes in the near future. I don't think you'd disagree with any of the changes. Yes we're not PERFECTLY ACCURATE at the moment, pvp is one of the toughest mechanics to replicate and everyone is doing their best.
