Re: SHOULD EVENTS BE REMOVED OR LIMITED
I had played UO on osi from around 1998 to around 2002 and just could not stomach the changes that had been made and were being made anymore, therefore I quit. The whole time I was waiting for a new shard that had the old school ways or some player run shard that could try to mimick it. After almost 6 years of looking for a new shard off and on I found second age.
Upon my find of second age I was revitalized and felt that I had finally found what I had been looking for, for so long. Now after about 2 years of playing second age off and on, I have realized that second age still lacks what I am looking for. Era accuracy. I think the demise of this server will be the lack of taking a risk and making some major changes after certain procedures have been in place for 2 years.
For me personally, I would love to see events leave completely (except for in game events, NO TROPHIES AND ALL THESE NON ERA ACCURATE GIFTS), and I would also like to see accounts per computer (don't know if it is possible) reduced down to 1. Yes, people would have to choose which accounts to get rid of, (maybe we could have a consolidation of chars from the accounts to one account for current players), but overall this would finally replicate the true feel of how UO Second age truly was. You know, heading to the blacksmith for a repair...things of that nature.
Until the day drastic changes are made for the sake of true era accuracy, this server will just be a fraud. I don't mean to sound negative as I have played this shard with some enjoyment for the past 2 years and respect the people who run it and how the handle issues, but the truth is that it will never be accurate until the glaring issues are fixed.
If and when staff decides to make these changes I will revoke my part time/semi part time status and start playing much more again, just like I am sure many others will. Some will quit, true. More will join, true. When it comes down to it, if you are promoting era accuracy and the way it was, then you must make it that way for the players to believe it, otherwise people will just be waiting for the next best thing and this server will never have a truly die hard player base.
Players that are just looking for the "next" server until the next good thing comes up shouldn't be here anyways. The players you should be catering to are the people who truly are looking for that replica experience from back in the day which is what is being sold.
I would like to thank you guys for starting this server and maintaining it for as long as it has currently, and I think this servers next step in advancement is to be objective and truly recreate "The way it was."

Re: SHOULD EVENTS BE REMOVED OR LIMITED
I had an idea. I was reading a post derrick made about a patch for the test servers where, during world save, time would freeze. I'm wondering if there is any way to implement something so when the world save started it would throw off razor macros for unattended farming, archerbots target closest, etc... If it's possible. Trying my best to be constructive.

the macro would still continue after time unfroze thoughstygia wrote:I had an idea. I was reading a post derrick made about a patch for the test servers where, during world save, time would freeze. Re: SHOULD EVENTS BE REMOVED OR LIMITED
Events are clearly not era accurate. I don't participate (I suck at PvP although I guess practice would help) but they certainly don't detract from my playing experience in any way.
Agree that accounts should be reduced to 1. Otherwise people are playing up to 15 chars (let's face it - some are playing even more than that). One of the challenges that I liked was filling those char slots and having to make hard choices about professions and skills. In fact I've restricted myself to 1 account on this shard. Back in the day hardly anyone had more than one account since it cost, what, $150/year per account? Plus since macroing was banned then it was harder to develop uber-characters except over a very long period of time. Personally I never macro'd (although I do now) - the most I ever did was a little 8x8 on the ocean to get those last few points of Eval or whatever.
Of course allowing multiple accounts also crowds the housing situation, and if there's a SINGLE aspect that will limit the growth, in terms of people playing the game, of this shard it will be a housing shortage. I'm glad to learn there are still a few spots available, but how long will that last if even just a few more people are introduced to T2A?
Multiple accounts could be phased out over a relatively long period of time in fairness to the people who spent so much time and effort developing them. And we should acknowledge that multiple accounts probably enhanced the early growth and stabilization of this shard. But in terms of era accuracy, and growth of the shard, multiple accounts are in the long term undeniably bad for T2A.
Maybe if I had multiple accounts personally, I'd feel differently. But if you step back and try to be objective about this, I think it's almost undeniable that this will prevent long-term growth of the shard, and therefore its survivability.

Re: SHOULD EVENTS BE REMOVED OR LIMITED
If this server was one account only I never would have played. I played a ton of UO and did my time working up magery the first few times manually and working up fighting skills manually and so on. I'm not cool with doing that again and I'm guessing many feel the same way. There will never be a perfect old school OSI server but this one does a good job at replicating the feel.
Events or no events, I care not, but take away my multipe accounts and make it hard for me to macro while I'm at work and I'm gone. Honestly half my UO enjoyment is creating good in-depth macros that could run for days unattended if possible. Anyone else have the macro watching disease?

Re: SHOULD EVENTS BE REMOVED OR LIMITED
See, I am macroing for the first time and am already sorta regretting not building my characters naturally. There is some fun and satisfaction in finally hitting GM (insert skill) after much toil in the dungeons.
I agree that macroing is helpful in taking away some of the pain/boredom. But I created a 5x GM mage (and not far from 7x) in a few days and that is just wrong. The first tank mage I made in 1998ish took me FOREVER but I loved the character. This new char, I have less attachment to.
The instant gratification of macroing I think ultimately detracts from the game, but I understand its appeal - obviously since I'm doing it myself. Lazy I guess.
LOL no macro-watching disease here - I macro so I don't have to watch the drudgery!

Re: SHOULD EVENTS BE REMOVED OR LIMITED
Just because its legal to afk macro doesnt mean you have to. If macroing is ruining the 'feel' of your uo experience then dont do it. Players are partially responsible for their own enjoyment lol

Completely agree ...... the position I've taken doesn't reflect my in-game actions.

Re: SHOULD EVENTS BE REMOVED OR LIMITED
I know this is leading off-topic, but I would like to comment on this one. I would be completely for a no-macro policy, but it's pretty much usless without a shard-wipe (which will never happen). I would very much like to play the game, hunt monsters and such, to gain skill, craft items and sell them to further my trade skill, all that. The problem here is that nobody else is playing by these rules, and I feel like I have to macro to remain competitive, or at least stay un-pk'd. Realistically, it's alot like saying "hey, you can make a character with only 10 str, it makes the game more challenging/enjoyable", but we all know that you would be the most killed individual on the shard. Craft skills? If you think your selling anything that isnt GM, and if you are lucky enough to sell even a gm item, you arent getting squat for it. The too many accounts, allowable macroing, tons of houses train has traveled to far to be derailed now.
Re: SHOULD EVENTS BE REMOVED OR LIMITED
Agree.....which means the shard is permanently addicted to macro-ing.
Re: SHOULD EVENTS BE REMOVED OR LIMITED
My main characters are far from 'completed characaters'. Its a choice you make
However they arent super noobs either. I usually macro skills to a useable level then they finish on their own.
I also have a couple purely non macro characters I play on.

Re: SHOULD EVENTS BE REMOVED OR LIMITED
My first toon took months to get to master magery back in early 98 but I made a toon when I returned to T2A and had GM magery in about two weeks(I did have a buddy funding me). But the point is we have a decade of exp with this game now which means it will never take as long as it did before. It took the same time before for the most part but we were bad at the game. Now we know exactly where to start and what to do so our efficiency is through the roof. I was macroing in late 98, after my first toon was basically done for that time period, and never got caught by OSI GMs. If you think people didn't macro in the old days then you are sorely mistaken, they just didn't macro at the bank.Budner wrote:See, I am macroing for the first time and am already sorta regretting not building my characters naturally.
