What you're saying is essentially that the patchnotes don't say anywhere that you can't move trash barrels around without destroying them first. Well, I can't prove you wrong, because you're basing your argument on what you DON'T see in the patchnotes. The converse of your argument would then be, where does it say that you can move around trash barrels without destroying them?
Most of us have already agreed about what I claim. Our experience, I think, overrides the above predicament.
When trying to present proof of a statement, the onus of proof beyond reasonable doubt is on the presenter, not anyone else to disprove you. There's reasonable doubt that you could indeed chop a trash barrel, or just say "I wish to place a trash barrel" again and it would have the same effect.
I just tested it in my house, I can certainly chop the trash barrel. So, you've proved nothing really, other than that according to patch notes and derrick's programming, it is working as intended.
Thank you.

honestly, i didn't think there was a barrel delay when placing "and there is 0 proof on that patch", it was just players typing speed. since UO is 100% macro based now, enjoy.. and i have seen/looted peoples houses when they destroy their barrels "as your patch note says" but most aren't stupid.

I agree that the above cited patch is not proof of the mechanism, but coupled with the following information the case is closed.
The following are the "localized strings" related to trash barrels that are contained within the client files. The existance of the first string is to me, proof positive that if you tried to place a barrel in a house that already had one you would get this message.
cliloc.enu wrote:
"You already have a trash barrel!"
"You cannot place a trash barrel there!"
"This is not a valid location."
"You cannot place a trash barrel near a door or near steps."
"You have a new trash barrel. Three minutes after you put something in the barrel, the trash will be emptied. Be forewarned, this is permanent!"
Cliloc.enu in the client and the other Cliloc.XXX files contain the translations for each common message in game. You can confirm the existence of this message within the file by opening your own copy of this file in your UO folder using notepad, and then searching for "trash barrel". It's the third instance of that phrase.

This is my first time reading this thread... I'm surprised anyone even argued this topic in the first place. You could never place a trash barrel if you already had one in a house. It definitely did not simply erase the previous one and teleport it around where the command was used. I have never done this on here personally, because I had no idea it even worked that way. I would always destroy the barrel before re-placing it due to the fact that was the way it always worked on OSI...

Great new source of information! I'v already found a wealth of information here. Thanks
Bye bye, movable trash cans!

I also had the opportunity to test the trash barrels on live servers. They maintain the same functionality there as is suggested by the clioc messages. Trash barrels were also forbade from being placed on steps as well, and were also forbade from being placed within 1 tile of any door. Also, when looking at the original patch notes, the line that says that "You can only have one trash barrel per house." is very indicative of the functionality behind trash barrels. Finally (some food for thought), before the addition of co-owners (and the original patch was from the pre co-owners days), the only person who could move the trash barrel was the house owner as described by the patch notes.

IMO nitpicking is good when suggesting changes to the game.
You're right, I based my argument on what I didn't see, which was proof of the functionality, which is what you were trying to proove in the first place.
No hard feelings..

Whow! Talk about makin' it harder for mi to teach newbs about House Security in
The Humble Village of Awesome!
When this is implemented, I'd love a good weeks heads up if possible, as this might be quite a formidable change for a newb to fully comprehend.

You dont need to teach them that.

Rofl, I think I do. Wouldn't want them accusing mi of stealin' their hard earned stuff. Plus, if they keep losin' their hard earned items it'll take them longer to move out and let a new newb get a crack at the house. Also, new players might get very discouraged if they can't even macro safely in a house designed to offer just that. We wouldn't want our new population quittin' nao do we? ;)

They wont get robbed in the awesome town of awesomeville, but these newbies will eventually move out and collect items worth stealing.

Hangon to be clear on this one.
Only the owner of the house will be able to destroy and move a trash barrel?
