Hiding does not have anything to do with armor. It is all about your skill level and proximity to other mobiles. The only real reason to GM hiding it so decrease the distance from a combatant in which you can use the skill, but the benefit is only slight, and realistically, you don't want to hide where they can see you.

On a thief or some stealth character, sure why not GM it to get that near 100% success chance. Most people are fine with 80, and basically never fail at 90.

As far as hiding skill being compared to detect hidden goes: A GM hider has a 50% chance of being revealed by a GM detector. They basically get you in 2 skill uses for the most part, so I would not even consider an increased amount of skill as any benefit in these regards.

As I wrote my question I was thinking to myself... I hope Matron de Winter will answer. Haha. I love your guides on everything, you really know this game well.

I currently have gm hiding but I'm thinking on dropping it so I can put ten points in something else.

if I dropped stealth to 90 as well, it's another 20 points to play with.

Thanks again for your answer.

You can fail stealth sometimes at 90 even without armor, its rare but possible. I much prefer 100 stealth to take 10 steps, so the duration between skill uses doesnt feel to painfully long.
