I have the solution, and I do expect a reward.

Use your satelite internet to access craigslist.com. From there, find an apartment in any urban or suburban area. Then, visit your travel site of choice and find plane tickets for your desired dates. From a list of apartments, find one that will be right for your needs and arrange to meet the landlord. Fly to your desired destination and rent the apartment of your choosing. Travel with or ship your computer system to the location, acquire refreshments and/or drugs, arrange for your high-speed internet installation, and after said installation occurs, you're all set. Enjoy high speed UO with your satellite internet connection (and about 3k per month depending on location and depth of drug addiction).

It is possible to play UO with Hughes Net but it is expensive. What plan do you have Power MAX?
Their commercial plans are a lot faster. Try testing it first http://consumer.performancetests.hughesnet.com/

lol @ elph

WOW......your the only person to tell me that with hues net it IS possible to play efficiently.

i will most def do some research on the subject and talk to my isp

however i may be rich in UO from living in BA with LOW ping, but im not in real life unfortunatly.

I do have a job though and if theres a will theres a way. Thank you for your input.

As horrible as it sounds, you'd more than likely get considerably better ping times using dial-up. Chances are you can get that locally, so might be worth a shot for retro-'gaming' and keep the sat for everything else.

My brother plays on Hughes Net and I have as well when I go visit.. Let me tell you it is the worst internet I have ever played UO on. I think a 28k modem would be MUCH better. When he was using a verizon 3-4 g hot spot.. THAT worked and it worked well. The data usage forced him to Hughes net and OMG.. It's almost unplayable. About the only thing I am willing to do is lvl 1 Tmaps. He makes it work.. sort of. Expecting to die, not carrying anything of value blah blah. If you can afford a hot spot with 3 or 4 G you will be MUCH happier. This is from experience not second hand knowledge.

Hops are all the servers you have to go true Before reaching the host server, its more important to have less hops then ping time. If you have around 10 to 13 hops thats good since every hop might ping you out and give you packet loss.

A quick way to kill a hop is to plug your computer directly into the modem(satellite) rather than a router. Of course if you're already doing this it won't help :). Not that it would help much anyway, maybe 1-2ms but every bit helps.

Post your tracert here and I'll see if I can identify anything else.

Hops should never be considered from a performance standpoint; their only purpose is to keep packets from circling endlessly due to poorly configured routers. At best choosing a route based on them /might/ eliminate a point of failure (many 'hops' actually consist of multiple routers which don't decrement the ttl, meaning you have no idea how many routers a packet really traversed... it also tells you nothing of relative congestion levels). The only metrics much worth considering from a node's point-of-view should be latency and packet drops.

Sorry for your loss. Still recommend you try dial-up. :/

I've played on mobile hotspot before (3G). It's not too bad provided your cell signal is decent. Of course if the tower is congested (say you're trying to play in O'Hare airport) your connection will have lots of packet loss and be almost unplayable.

As Rammar pointed out, you're dead going from house to satellite. It wouldn't really matter if you were losing 30ms a hop (which is unheard of unless you're hitting some really old backbones) the first one is such a killer you don't even notice the rest.

I assume you're somewhere around salt lake city, you could check out something like the three on this page. http://isp1.us/free-internet/utah/ Reasonably cheap so maybe you'd still be able to play until your contract is up.

Good luck man, wish there was more we could do to help.
