What's borderline psychopathic that even when a scam can be clearly seen to be a scam, you'll do nothing about it, except for maybe blame and insult the victim.

You can't tell me that you have no way to track the external IP address of who signs into SirEarnest's account. I've had a RunUO server locally on my machine. I know what the admin options are. I know that I can tell what characters belong to what accounts, and the IP address of the connected client (barring proxy tunneling, but this guy was connected and moving too fast to be tunneling through something like TOR).

I know that if you know code well enough to modify the C# of the RunUO server, you can code in logging features.

I know you can read journals.
I know that when SirEarnest set up his forum account, this webserver was aware of his external IP, and that unless the IP is from China, it's most likely his. It's trivial to log this.
I also know that it's trivial to block people from logging into the forum OR the RunUO server by external IPs.

Your *hands off* approach to administering the server and solving problems... is it a result of apathy, incompetence, or something else?

I don't know about SirEarnest's IP, but I'm sure he has your IP. I vote BAN!

Always use a middle-man the community trusts with big trades.

UO can and usually is a cutthroat game where you have to earn people's trust. If you don't know them, get a middle-man.

Yeah man, read the damn forums. Tons of people have lost house deeds by putting them on the floor of their house - guess what? That happened to mem but I didn't quit. I didn't read the forums. So before you start insulting and trash talking people here take your Trammy ass back to EA shards. I'll keep an eye out for ya and see if I can add house loot to your list of gripes when you don't read about home security (yes that's happened to me too - there are talented thieves here) Deal with it, this is REAL UO.

Isnt scamming on the forums illegal? People who scam in a video game are the retards. I just cant see a cool person logging onto a video game and scamming other people like this. Scammers are fat troll monsters who only bath when people spit on them because they fucking stink from all the kraft dinner they eat. Makes me feel gross for playing a game like this :( Im going to watch arrested development now.

Please visit the trade forums for my house auctions! Thanks!

I think it is equally ridiculous that the person who got scammed is made out to be the bad guy here.

I think people who come here and don't want to be PK'd etc... should probably go somewhere else, because this is the era before Trammel, and yeah the guy should have been more careful because scamming also happened in OSI, but publicly making it the scammed guy's fault and ridiculing him/her while letting the scammer off the hook isn't fair.

Im with you on this one. The guy is clearly frustrated, and its obvious why. You should give him a pass on this despite what he said.

So I just got back and was going to start playing UOSA, I made this post earlier today.

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=46779

Basically, after seeing this thread I think UOSA isn't for me. The unsecure house trading feature is a turn off, but scamming being done on the official forums and nothing being done about it pushes it over the top for me. Things like this will only make people quit and I really don't feel like playing a private server that I know has features that will make people want to quit playing, cuz they will.

And just so you know i'm a unique user that has never played UOSA before, my AIM is [email protected] and that's also the AIM I use for contacts on UO Hybrid, my UO hybrid forum username is also the same as my UOSA forum name (ujil), anyone that read the previous thread and was thinking of helping me out don't reply anymore.

Someone can send me an AIM if things like these change and maybe I check UOSA out.

Scamming over the official forums is not allowed. Scamming in game is fair game, because all the victim needs to not be a victim is common sense. If you feel you are lacking in that area you should definitely leave as you are doing.
UOSA embrace the strong and powerful, weak souls are to be exploited and ridiculed.

It has nothing to do with UOSA, it seems to me UO isn't for you. Scamming was/is part of hybrid and also exists to some form on 95% of private shards. Don't take this incorrectly but you may be better off on OSI, they have done everything they can to get rid of anything players could deem unfair.

The problem with this situation is someone created a brand new acct and scammed someone with it. I'm sure the OP Is banned now but that means little when it was a bogus account.
