...For every aspect of PvP that this game has to offer. There is never only one reason to pvp, although getting nice loot is a good enough reason alone.

I like to strive to be the best as an individual (when on my own) or as a team (when in a group). The UO combat system is the best ever because:
- You can crunch the numbers and develop an "ideal template", tweaking to improve
- You can learn from your experiences and greatly improve your chances by simply being prepared
- Most importantly, after all of the above, you can never be sure what happen. The unexpected and unplanned is always around the corner
- Fighting someone who is trying just as hard as you to win it
- The excitement of having non-consentual fighting, even when I am the one that is the weak miner, it brings an element of risk and excitement to running anywhere outside of town
The system rewards a thought out approach, being prepared, and creativity over the long run (you'll win more than you lose) yet, every single fight is a crap shoot. Nothing like fighting a real person with unpredictable changes on the field.
Compare that to item-based and level based fighting BAH!

Loot doesn't mean much to me except that it aids in keeping me stocked for future encounters. I'm a very competitive person so when it comes to UO pvp is the only aspect that keeps me entertained. I love the feel of going balls out against whoever and the feeling of winning is fun for me. I don't have much patience or desire to spend hours farming/crafting so i play for the competition of pvp. Being a pk is just a form of acquiring future pvp loot and it builds a certain reputation that draws other pvper's out to fight me.
