I think you should worry less about the items worth. It's not a big deal that someone somewhere got a statue.

I worry about the economy...

After 2 years of causal playing my net worth is less 3 mill. While I am genuinely happy pro scored some sweet items, I am kind of downbeat that anyone can make the same amount in a few hours that it took me 2 years of effort and often boring and laborious work to make.

Well the item itself actually has no value. I can't sell it to a vendor for 10gp, it's only worth as much as people will pay for it.

Countless items have been accidentally added in and later become rares. I consider this a non-issue as OSI had similar instances of this over and over throughout the years.

This is nothing new.
If some accidental rare was deleted before, its nothing new.
If some accidental rare wasn not deleted before, its nothing new either.

The precedent was established well over a decade ago. Carry on.

My point of contention is with the ability to make a ridiculous amount of gold with relatively little effort. I understand rares are worth what people are willing to pay for them. I find it disheartening that the amount of work I put in over the last two years to get to my meager financial position can be attained by another player in one overnight event. I am not against this type of even and reward but it would have been nice to know that the rares were going to be available because I would have stayed and even if I got only one of those items it would have possibly doubled my net worth of 2 years of hard work.

My position in short:

GM events and rewards in the form of rares are fine. An official statement from the staff regarding future events and rewards would be GREAT but a lack thereof would not discourage me from continuing on my merry playing way. That is all. Thank you for reading :D

Imagine if the last two years, you had spent the effort collecting and selling rares, you would have much more than 3 mill.

It is all about how people focus their efforts.

I personally don't play the rares game. I sell crafted goods, mostly kegs now a days. I enjoy doing it, and I enjoy the deals I do with people.

It's just like real life, I know a lot of people that don't work very hard and can make lots of money (investments, etc.) and a lot of people that bust their ass and live paycheck to paycheck.

Life isn't fair, UO isn't fair. Deal with it.

As most have said here, I give props to Pro for grabbing these. They were there for the picking, and they should not be deleted.

I cannot tell you the number of times I've stumbled across spawning rares that are just sitting there at their spawn spot. And these are not the hidden rares inside some of the most dangerous places, I'm talking about bridles, dirty pots, tomato soup, checkers, empty tub, even a pot of wax. Items that spawn openly in stables, taverns and inns, and people just run past them without giving them a second look. I'm quite positive 90% of the attendants yesterday didn't even look twice at the items, automatically assuming they were part of the fixed decor and didn't think of picking them up.

Items from events are not always deleted. Once when Darkwing had his blockade of Cove to mess with PoD, the GM's set up a cannon and where firing unto his ships, which were in flames and had cannonballs on its deck. We managed to procure on of such ships, and sail it all the way back to our guild house, where it was anchored for well over a year. Derrick had knowledge of the ship and how we had stolen it from DW, and he decided to let it be, that is until I took a vacation, and it unfortunately sank. The fire field and cannon balls were still floating behind our GH well after the boat sank, and it wasn't until recently that they were deleted.

I am all for new, unique rares coming into the economy through events. It increases the amount of "server-birth-like" items, and gives more people the opportunity to grab them, as opposed to hoping that the houses that host such rares eventually IDOC and decay. And you'd still have to be lucky and organized enough to hold off the IDOC hunters before they get to them.

WiseOne: You could have stumbled upon an IDOC with ridiculous loots and become a millionaire overnight. All it takes is a bit of luck, and a lot of paying attention to your surroundings.

I agree with everyone here who is not Telamon. If there had been no unique (or close to it) or accidental rares in the original UO, I wouldn't support it now - but there were. Also, these were not given out like Halloween candy but were a reward for very clever work, persistance, and effort. In fact no one had to end up with them; it just so happens that someone did. And from what I understand there aren't super-rares falling out of the trees at every shard event, so they are treasures instead of a cheap joke. I'm jealous of Pro but I'm also damn impressed. Good for you, man.

This is exactly why I absolutely love UOSA!

I actually tried picking up anything that showed up as highlighted.

I completely agree which is why I am all up for pro and anyone else keeping their new lootz all I am saying is that Telamon is right about the need for official clarification from the staff regarding future events and rewards.

chainsoar wrote:Telamon, have you retired from collecting rares altogether, or is petitioning to have other people's stuff deleted just another facet of your pixel fascination?

You didn't attend the event, you missed out on some cool stuff, deal with it. If you'd been the one who grabbed these items you would've kept your mouth completely shut about it until the time came to profit from them. Go ahead and tell me that's untrue, seriously just try. The second you do, you're a liar.
X2. You have to be the most bitter played I've ever come across. For someone who IDOC whorded their way to the top of wealth on this shard, and did it BEYOND EXCESSIVELY, it's sad that you're crying about someone looting items at an event. I've been on here for 4 years, give or take a few months, and I've never seen anyone bitch and complain the way you do when someone gets something that you want. I can only imagine if you had happened to be at that event, and grabbed those items. Would you give them back or want them deleted if you had obtained those items if Marks house went IDOC? You're a JOKE. I'm sure there would have been a "Since I obtained these items in a way that I don't think is fair I'm returning them." Get fucking real bro, you think your ghost script (before that was changed which you were most likely using UOE with btw) and your more recent IDOC script is a legit way of how you obtained your rares? The pot calling the kettle black ring a bell? Stop derailing everyones auctions. You really went out of your way to to start a new thread to get someone elses items deleted? Let the forum grief begin.

Congratz, Pro, it's not easy to make Telamon jellies but you did it. I can almost taste the tears of envy.

No items were accidently left at this event.

The only items that were created for this event were two magic candles, and two magic lanterns (neither of which can affect gameplay)

two trophies and two pieces of ranger armour were rewarded for the safe return of Dupre's memoirs.

It also took almost 10 hours for anyone to finally solve the puzzle and get those items. Also at least 3-400 dead players means they were well earned in my book.

This will be the only time I address comments on event items and rewards as it destroys the fun of the game.

I think everyone should give Telamon their pixels so that we don't have to suffer through anymore of these threads.

Well, I guess that's as official as it gets. Potential millions worth of rares 'could' crop up at any event.

Guess I'll lose some more sleep.

I'm personally in favor of little to meager rewards at events, and also feel these drops were pretty excessive.
However, if excess is where we're going, then hell, it shouldn't be long before I've got GK's purple horse and some matching bright purple GF blessed sandals.

I don't think they should be stripped because it was certainly no accident. I think part of the original sentiment was the completely unexpected level of loot.
Expect to see a lot more activity and treachery at future events I suppose.
