I was asking a generalized question.

Ghosting, for both PKing and Pk avoidance is a crutch. It's not a negative thing to say so, and where you got the idea that I was somehow implying some kind of unfair double standard is beyond me.

There are SOOO many ways for the savvy UO player to keep being PKed to a minimum without having to use a ghost-cam. Just the same as it's not necessary for PKs to use a ghost to find targets. Both are, once again, a crutch. Personally I prefer using tracking on my PK characters over tying up one of my accounts with a ghost cam. I think it's fun to gate into an area without knowing if there is actually anybody there, makes it actually a hunt.... Just like I think it's more fun to rely on my ability to spot and react to names popping up on the edge of my screen to avoid being ganked on the rare instances I actually farm.

Not saying your idea isn't nifty, or that it's not a creative way to try to avoid death by gank-squad. There are some flaws in your logic behind how effective it will be, but it's understood that you don't believe it to be a perfect solution to an imperfect problem. To use the Destard entrance as an example, that is the LAST place I'd have a rune marked for the purpose of PKing. The wide open space of that dungeon in general is also a hindrance to your alarm system. Lots of directions to be attacked from. Where your idea would actually work best is places like Deceit where there are a lot of choke points and fewer paths of entry. Were I to make use of your idea, I can think of a couple places to place a ghost that would probably work rather well.

Anyway, I apologize for appearing to be overly critical of your support device, Tiny Tim.

Yea np, i'm so used to being trolled on every forum, so it took as you said i was useing a crutch. I haven't even used it here because I have more problems with blues talking to me till there friends get there and then go grey and take counts. So apparently there's no point to even useing this macro here..

The easiest 'escape' is just to keep Recall precast. Soon as your mob dies, run up, hit Escape to cancel Recall, then open the corpse and immediately recast Recall. Hold shift and loot the corpse (you can loot while keeping the Recall reticle up.) After a minute, cancel Recall and recast. Rinse and repeat. No regs wasted, no time lost.

Soon as a PK shows up, you just click your rune (because you're still precast, right?) and you're out. To make it even easier, just assign an easy hotkey (I used to use F12) and make a macro to target your rune for you.

Is it a hassle to constantly recast Recall? Yes. Did I ever die again to PKs after implementing this on my bard? No.

Now that's just plain cheating....

This does not bode well, the quickest way to destroying whats left of the social cohesion here is for some sort of automated macro arms race.

Seriously folks, this is *not* a good direction and to use the same methods of those who are corroding the game will just corrode the "game" more.

Yes, automated programs destroy the game; it is true. This is an undeniable truth, because the game was not conceived with such programs in mind when it was being dreamed up and thus these programs are little more then foreign species stripping the variety and soul out of whats left of UO: The same as what happens when you introduce some alien species into eco-systems.

If we could find some sort of middle-ground between this invasion of automation and the game that we "know", we can find ways for things to co-exist, but this is not the way.

+1

Imagine if everyone just played the game instead of figuring out how to exploit the game to the max..
The mentality over here is: Everyone else is using Razor to do certain unfair things..I better also do this otherwise I am going to suck... Fighting fire with fire
So in the end eveyone uses Razor to create macros.
Just my opinion

UO loop, Easy Macro, UO Assist, 1 account, and a penny stuck in the keyboard to spam a skill button.
Thats how T2A era was played.

and good old UO Extreme speedhacking on a 28.8 kbps connection.

This is exactly how I did it back in the day (But I had 2 accounts on dial-up and never did use the speedhacking). EZ Macros FTW!

Whatever the utility is, it's something that a lot of people probably never thought of doing, so it's a good suggestion. Now that you have the idea, tweak it in your own ways folks.

This seems like it would work a lot better for players using lesser dungeon monsters to gain skills than high level players farming high level loot. Only because the pks can gate directly to you in a high farm spot, but I would think most pks wouldn't bother to mark every earth elemental or air elemental spot in Shame. So throwing a character in a good spot there could make a difference between life and death.

On the same line of thought though, are there communication crystals here? Cause you could do the same thing with those and be completely in the bounds of the way the game was meant to be played.
