I am under the impression it all goes to server costs. Extra for a month gets put towards future costs, as I understand it.

If no in game items will be given then I would like to see the current system for monthly donaters modified a bit. Instead of just an orange name I would like to be able to pick my color from a specific list. Neon purple to be exact :)

And/or

If no in game items are to be given out then maybe donaters will have special privileges in game. Such as the ability to buy a large bulk order from staff. For example if you donate $5 a month on subscription you will be able to place one large order a month through a special vendor. A $10 donation allows fir two item purchase and so on...So if you wanted to purchase 100k arrows you could all at once through this vendor at the normal price.

This way you have a slight advantage, not having to recall around all day every hour to get that many AND you still have to pay for it via in game gold.

What if they were given one item of clothing, blessed, and that is named: I donated to UOSA and all I got was this lousy shirt (hat, etc). The item is no special color at all.

Cut and dry....
Derrick wrote: A lot of shards to do this, but we are sworn not to ever allow this. We want this to be a free shard where everyone can can be on equal footing regardless of their ability to pay. When people get rewarded it's no longer a donation. Although the reward will really be in the (hopefully) increased playerbase from which all players will benefit.
Derrick wrote: I appreciate the suggestions, but we're really set on the absolute strictness of absolutely no in-game reward at all for money (or anything else out of game for that matter). This doesn't make it easy to pay the bills at all, but I really belive it's the only way to ensure long-term viability, and playability of the shard.
Thanks guys!
Derrick wrote:Also note, we do not sell anything on UOSA; all donations are donations; and very appreciated.
Derrick wrote:Our policy is to accept donations only. We feel that donation in which you get something in return is more like a purchase and we are very opposed to this.

A well-intentioned idea, perhaps, but its application would not be good for the shard.

I'll donate $100 for a blessed purple horse that can't be killed or taken from me.

I appreciate the effort you put into this concept; however there is no way that will will ever consider selling items, skills or any other in-game tangible in-game thing of value at all. That's a promise.

This is a good opportunity to thank all the current and past subscribers and donators to Second Age. I really appreciate the community's support of this server. The sole goal of Second Age is to recreate the T2A era of Ultima online as best we can, for those that enjoy it and to administrate the server in a way that is fair and accessible to all. The secondary consideration of paying for it all is, well secondary... We have a very capable server in a world class datacenter due to the contributions of players and staff.

Were we to suffer financially we may need to scale back on our network expense's, but UOSA will never go down for lack of funding. We have never had the need to scale back our expenses for lack of funds; nor is that foreseen. Donations and subscriptions are always very appreciated but please don't get the idea that Second Age is in any way in danger of financial collapse.

If I subscribe, can we get your data-center better pipe to the west coast?
For some crazy ass reason I get routed through NYC (which tacks on roughly another 100ms) when I play from home or work in California. :)0

Whatev, keep up the good work. Most of us really appreciate the commitement to quality and attention to detail on this shard!
