Need to make AFK fishing legal (under these circumstances)

So when a GM is paged after an afk fishing report they would also be checking the player's skill level?

Keep up. It only means that if they aren't collecting resources (i.e. have 125 items in their bag), staff can move on without waiting the 10 or whatever minutes it takes to check "being AFK" and move on to real issues or preparing events.

Vhyx missed the point and lelouche agreed with him because he likes to play general antagonist. I don't really care about fishing, but there hasn't been a proper response to Apoc yet.

Here, let me supply you guys with a good one: in order to keep the rules on AFK macroing consistent, it makes sense to make it against the rules to undertake any sort of resource-gathering skill while away from your keyboard, even if you aren't gathering resources. Staff should just say this instead of saying that the reason it became illegal to AFK fish was because deep water became reachable from land. There. It's argument from prior circumstances, but it'll do in a pinch.

No, I didn't miss the point. I read everything he said about having a full pack and not actually collecting any resources, ergo if there is no resources being collected- fishing while AFK should be legal. He wants to create a circumstance, which would make the staff have to take special measures to check compliance.

What I did, was skip the foreplay and cut to the chase. He doesn't want to collect Fish Steaks, he wants to collect Lvl 1 maps and MiB's, which equate to gold and magic items. It's a proposal to not have to suffer the boring way to a lucrative and exceptionally low risk, low interaction method of making money. He wants to be able to afk macro fishing to GM while he's at work/school/community service/church/sporting events. Then he probably wants us to believe that once he hits GM fishing, he'd suddenly turn legitimate and always be in attendance while his fisher runs. If you like you can replace the "he", in reference to Apoc, to "players wishing to have a GM fisherman". So do you still think my response to his proposal was somehow improper?

Applejack did a good summary of it all though: "Failure". This proposal doesn't pass the sniff test.

Improper is the wrong word. Off topic nails it. You can make assumptions about his motives all day long, but only now did you address his original post. At least now we're discussing the issue. For the record, I think AFK fishing even without resource gathering should be prohibited for the same reason you can't do the same for mining or lumberjacking. However, this isn't about AFK fishing for MiBs or TMaps. That's always been against the rules.

Thanks tanmits. If that is what the final word is, then I would accept it. That's the solution I'm trying to reach here with my question.

Regarding the motives of players who may use this to "cheat", I don't think that can be avoided, but I also think most players adhere to the rules. This isn't a plea to make it easier for people to cheat. Far from it. I'm just posing a question. And as mentioned, I don't think this will cause a big headache for the GM's.

Since starting this topic, I've GM'ed fishing. Those last 2 points were a pain. But I still think its a valid question.

AFK fishing isn't illegal just because of resource gathering.

A few months ago, some of the ocean areas were changed which would allow certain spots along the coast and in towns to be considered "deep water". This would allow a person from shore to be able to actively macro fishing and be able to fish up SOS's without having to be on a boat as well as gain skill up to 100. Those are the main reasons that shoreline fishing was made illegal on the shard.

I'm not sure if I agree or disagree with this arguement - mostly lean on the disagreement - but here's a fact.

Achemy 100% - Poisoner 30% - Fishing 95%

Achemist makes 15 potions every 15 seconds (enough to keep up with demand)

Posioner uses aproperately leveled posion every 10 seconds

Fisherman fishes while all this is going on.


Alchemest is GM still - Posioner is at 92.3% - Fishing is at 98.7%

Those are some slow slow slow gains from fishing - almost begging you to go afk. Luckly I have two monitors and netflix. Without a little AFK'ness you have to have the persistant level of a OCD fly to GM fishing.


Edit - for the record my fisherman is coasting in deep water on a boat. And sence complaining he just gained .1%. Suppose the moral is complaining = rewards.
