This.

1) Take your beating as a new player.
2) Get better.
3) Kill them all.

What other logical conclusion is there to this scenario?
this era isn't for everyone. If getting pk'ed or stolen from drives a person off, they probably don't belong here. If it motivates them to finish their toon so they can take revenge, they probably do.

This ^

I take the role of being an anti for a couple of reasons. First of, I don't particularly get any satisfaction from the option of ganking some defenseless bard hunting Ice Fiends at half health. Secondly, I find that putting yourself in the prey postion, only to fight back is MUCH more challenging than gating in fully debuffed and with an explo precasted. I bet most reds/blue pk's that I have encountered get a surprise when I turn around and actually fight back, be it on my bard or tamer. However, if I am hunting in a non PvP char, I will most likely end up recalling out or dying, but the thrill of the fight, and watching them offscreen from a bard is satisfying enough!! Also, when hunting in groups, and having 3-4 ppl hiding only to pop out when a pair of reds show up and seeing how they run is priceless. You can almost smell how they soiled their pants. Granted, we are not always successful, but when we are, the lolz are worth it!!

For new players out there, read through the forums. There's a ton of suggestions of how you can skill up rather cheap and quickly, and have enough gold to finish a PvP char. You will probably not do it in one week if you're not a power gamer, but if you invest a bit of time on it, you'll find the rewards pretty nice.

Also, there's many places you can hunt and make a ton of gold. My best suggestion for that is to move around. Don't camp a spawn. I have a hell of a time finding PK's when I recall around, most will not hang out in an area for long, so the chance of actually bumping into them is not that great if you spend less than 5 mins at each spawn.

Ahntara wrote:New to UOT2A after many years away. I was actually glad to find a shard that this style of play is not only permitted, but embraced. So bear with my whining and chime in to give your POV. I really do want to know why ppl are doing this.

I don't understand the PK gank. In reading here and the YouTube link that got me back in game, I see over and over that more ppl are wanted to join in, increase the participation and improve this shard. Yet, I've met so many (obviously) young/new players who have been PK'd by two or more, looted clean and are so discouraged they want to quit. If the two who rushed me had offered to fight or informed me that I was hunting in an off-limits spot, I would have gladly left. I also would have been just as happy to meet the ppl behind the avatar and hear directly from them. PVP against a worthy opponent is valid play. Superior numbers with mega skills chasing down a newbie seems cowardly and pointless, other than to drive ppl away from the server and onto others where PVP is not part of the game.

So, let me know why you do what you do. Maybe I just need a different view here.

so many reasons why the PK and event the PK gank is necessary. one has to do with mechanics. the mechanics here are a little off (miniheal is overpowered) so it's actually pretty difficult to kill someone one V one if that person has good skills/stats and is decent at PVP. you don't even have to be elusive. unless a monster flamestrikes you as you're getting attacked, you will often get away if you don't feel like fighting. getting together in small groups helps get the job done

another reason that relates to what i underlined in your post:

where's the thrill in farming, knowing the only way you will lose anything is if you lose connection? there is none. taking down lich after lich, wyrm after wyrm, gets dull. imagine the only threat is the monster. this was never the way it was. there were always pks. you have to be ready. is tonight the time a group of reds are going to come in and kill me before i make a bank run? did you just narrowly get a recall off with 2 health while carrying 7k and magic weapons you haven't IDed yet? or did you get good enough to defend yourself and fight them off with a friend or even kill one of them and give their head to a guard to collect the bounty? THAT is the thrill, my friend. this is the larger picture that you haven't entertained in your first post. pking and being pked is exciting.

and if it weren't for PKs, it would just tamers hogging territory. which is much worse. be grateful we pk them too so you can farm.

one thing is for certain: if it weren't for PKs, this would be a player VS monster server. get used to gank guerrilla tactics and prepare yourself.

Haha, yeah, farming any spawn is pretty much the most boring thing one can do in this game, however profitable.
Even mining is more entertaining because at least you're not on the same screen for 2 hours.

I have found in my ~3-4 months on UOSA, that there is SOOOO much more to Britannia than the 8 to 10 'hot spots' for farming.
Sure, the loot isn't as abundant but if you factor the cost of loss when PKs do roll into the hot spot (and they will) you'll end up not only making basically the same amount of gold, and find yourself less bothered by murderers.

One thing MOST people tend to overlook here is loot other than gold. Not much is worth it's weight in gold, but if you know where the NPCs are that will buy it, and you take the time to recall there when you're loaded, you'll make a pretty penny.

Good luck out there newbs.
It can't be that hard really. I'm not that good, don't really PvP and I've got a tower and all the resources I need to enjoy myself, with or without friends. :)

Ya, that does seem pretty impossible.
Save yourself the shame and embarrassment and just assume that if you can't understand me...you're the one who's retarded.

Your feedback is appreciated.

Hopefully, I can stay around long enough to work up some skills. But I have yet to find a place. (If you knew how happy I was to realize that Yew liches spawned on this server...) If my chars are in jeopardy everytime they step outside of town limits from PK's and inside townlimits from thieves, where is someone supposed to go to get better and enjoy their time here? Just being honest, if all this server is about is crafting and being a merchant, I just as soon do something else. I'm not opposed to PVP, just not ready for it.

In answer to the era question, I played from 1998 - 2003. I was among many who hated subsequent changes that morphed the game into something unrecognizable. I was killed many times in PVP engagement, but only PK'd once, on a treasure hunt. Knew many reds, hunted beside them and went grey healing/rezzing them too. Perhaps my experience is different from many because I am not antagonistic, like to meet and help ppl and don't play this game like a competitive dick.

All this being said...if anyone wants to team up and hunt gankers, apparently both my lame chars make excellent bait...

I didn't say that!!!! you messed up your quotes!

Read this: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=10117

It goes over some things that can help keep you alive.

Macro up all the skills that you can. If you need a house to macro in, contact Brules about borrowing a house.

Assume everyone is going to cause harm to you in game (especially brules...), and recall out if you're not prepared to fight.

best way to avoid being rolled by pks, make friends. Making enemies of some ppl isn't very well advised. Prime example- I really dislike A-V and K^A, everytime i see them doing a dragon turret I will go out of my way to destroy it. I could really care less if I am able to steal the dragons or not I just want to kill their dragons and eliminate their gold income. I rarely go out and pk. TBH the reason I went red to begin with on yitamin had to do with VIP not warring and i'm sure you've guessed it. I dislike them as well lol.

Anyhow- make friends, be nice to most and most will be nice to you. You don't have to kiss ass or anything. You'd be suprised to see how many pk's actually do rez and/or make a gate for the person(s) they just killed. It's rather remarkable compared to my memory of t2a era OSI servers. You'd hardly ever get a gate there and if you did get a rez it would be so they could just rez kill you lol.

I don't know what town you're spending your time in, but if you leave Britain towards the graveyard every time you leave town, yeah, you're gonna die.
Try heading to a moongate and spending some time in the more remote areas.
I'm not about to list out my 'mellow' hunting grounds on here, basically advertising to the PKs where I tend to roll when I don't want trouble.
If you would like some suggestions, feel free to PM me and I can give you a few ideas of where to build your character with fewer interruptions.

Haha, Loathed, would you care to elaborate on why you "really dislike A-V and K^A"?
I'm in K^A and I'm not sure what you might have against us, so I'm really curious. We are not griefers, PKs or scammers so perhaps you hate the good in our group?

Oh noes a dragon turret......please share the list of guilds you know of that DON'T have any members that do that (excluding Bloodrock :P).

You must have joined blindly, k^a is all of that.
[14:17] <UOSAPlayer4056> cr3w guild is a joke. Ran by staff members, multi client pking, this shards a joke and a half.

How is this possible when you're running me down? If you'd given me the chance I would have gladly talked to you.

Coming back to UO after so many years has been confusing. I played into Renaissance and figuring out exactly what's what, and what isn't, has been disconcerting. The software was mindboggling for me also. I'm not illiterate, but I never used UOAssist, so the whole Razor thing has been a learning curve. I can't/don't use it for regular play because it crashes me.

I did read the guides and have posted here requesting help. Feels even more lame that I epitomize "nice", going out of my way to approach and help new players and make friends. None of it made any difference when you and Incivility ganked one of my lame noobs.

So, since you're the player the question, answer this...where am I supposed to go to work up skills so that I can offer you a challenge/fight/worthy opponent (instead of my char's backside) at some point? How do I make friends with the ppl who are friended up, experienced, wealthy and already red from playing for ages? How do I approach your red when everything I read is to run from/recall out/just die? Are these things even possible? Cuz I'd love to get to know some vets here, especially the highly skilled guys like yourself. But I guarantee that if you see one of my avatar's in game, you're just gonna kill her like you did yesterday. I have no chance of befriending you.

I'd be more inclined to believe that whomever generated such a rep, is no longer with us.
Either that, or they are the members that never communicate with other members, as I've seen a few tags around who never respond .
