Not that i want to say something bad about Derrick...but it is something completely different to start something new than copy or emulate something that already exist someday. Richard Garriot was a man with a profession and brought things to life others not even dreamed of. Without R. Garriott Derrick couldnt do what he is doing now...
I would like to see Richard Garriott doing a new Fantasy MMORPG, every game this man made, was groundbreaking somehow...(except his last project maybe ).

Or maybe Garriott could simply tell Derrick where the game would have gone if it had stayed true to T2A style. That'd be interesting, if you ask me.

I heard the people who made uo were making an engine for Ultima 2 then they said forget it, lets just make this warhammer game.

Garriott and his crew had their chance with UO.... we don't need him here.

I agree with Panthor; I think deep down the guy was a trammy all along. I know they talked a good game about how it was so awesome to have it be completely ruled by the people and the double edged sword of 'free will' but at every patch/expansion they kept stepping further and further away from that.

Plus he disabled PvP at his castle IRL. Pfft, really, why need guard dogs and a security system when you have RL magic armour and weps?!

When Massively spoke to Garriott last year, it sounded like he has already begun work on a new game, but I'm not sure how on board I would be with his ideas. That I gather from the interview, the UO we know and love is pretty much gone from his mind in favour of a more casual player friendly type game like WoW. He also started getting into things like Metaverses and paying rl money for items rather than a monthly subscription and I don't care much for that formula.

I'd like to see Garriot buy back the rights to the Ultima brand once EA's Ultima Online becomes unprofitable... Then he'd be free to reuse the license either for a new Ultima single-player game, or a multiplayer incarnation.
