I think I read it another thread recently that to stealth without armor without failure was *approximately* closer to 85 than 80. Just something to consider. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

IIRC correctly you have a chance to be auto revealed vs a players DH. I play it safe and roll w 100 stealth even though I dont wear armor.
Fighting is for bad thieves or PVPers who just happen to like to incorporate stealing. Take skills that will get you to them and out. If they dont notice youve done your job well and dont have to worry about fighting anyway. Taking fighting skills and hoping to fight over what you have stolen is a losing proposition in terms of gaining items and money. You will likely lose the gear you had to take to stand up to them.
So roll out like a noob. If you have bad luck and are caught/attacked you only lose what you just stole anyway. Try again. Also there are plenty of places to steal where its almost impossible to not get away.

Did you just say fighting is just for bad thieves and pvpers
That takes more skill I assure you.
Let me guess you nab something or try to and then recall away every time right
If not I bet you contribute more to laundered death robes then anyone else.
That to me is like playing the lotto or gathering junk items around brit bank.
I can't believe you just told him to go townie that's funny.

Yes I did. If you are a thief and fighting you either A. got caught and suck/had bad luck or B. wanted to fight in which case you are probably a PVPer who takes stealing. I dont see what is so offensive about that, so why all the butthurt?

There are other ways, but I wont tell of course. And it depends. Yes recall if they are not AFK or distracted in game. Its better than gearing up to fight with $$$ worth of gear to nab the same stuff + teh dudes random regs worth $. Seems pretty simple to me.

Lotto- No, you can easily determine what you are getting by your location as long as you arent hitting noobs. I stole 720 charges worth of ID wand last night, and that was what I was after. And...

I never steal around the bank. Surefire way to get whacked. Its a waste of time.
I think you just dont understand the topic and how its done.

And BTW yes PVP does take more skill. Where did I deny that or say otherwise? I said bad thieves and PVPers. Not bad thieves and bad PVPers. I think you misunderstood me.
If you want to be a thief, I advise taking skills that get you there and out. If you want to PVP and steal too, then take mostly PVP build but drop the least important 2 skills with snooping and stealing.

Okay I gotcha thats where I misunderstood. I thought you were saying PVPer thieves were bad.
Thing is the longer you can stick around the more things you can nab though. Without resist or without meditation you arent going to stick around for long alot of the time.

Thats true you can nab more things. If you are just taking skills to stay around longer I guess thats fine. I ust wouldnt take any gear. Beyond their main weap, most peoples "more things" is just regs and whatnot.

I've narrowed it down to:
GM hide, snoop, steal, stealth
90 wrestle
90 magery
50 resist
70 med
i was wondering if i should maybe drop 5 points in snooping and add it to magery or med. what do you guys think?
I'd love to have tracking on this character-- maybe one day i'll drop resist for it, but for what my goals are concerning this character, i just can't have harm doing ten damage every time. that said, how much tracking is necessary to detect people 2, 3 or 4 screens away?

1.) 100 stealing, stealth, hiding, snoop, wrestling, and lockpicking (will be only at 97.6 or so right now)
70 magery (so I don't fail at recall and can heal a little)
30 tracking
90 str
80 dex
55 int
This is a fun build for me because I can lockpick chests around a dungeon while looking for potential targets. Wrestling being important to have a good chance of getting out in case I had to recall out while being attacked by a melee.
2.) I used to have a macer and a times a fencing thief back in the day and it was a blast as well. It was based on being attacked and being able to stand and fight while making sure I was stealing all my opponents bandaids during melee.
100 stealing, stealth, hiding, snoop, weap skill
healing and anat at 90 and magery at 20 or so using recall scrolls. I ran with 100 dex and str 25 magery.
In both builds I was mainly interested in stealing silver weaps. Mages rarely had what I was targeting. I almost always ran with a pal of mine with an identical name. Fun times. I've never really entertained a "mage" type of build for my thief.

thanks for all of your help. this character paid for itself and then some within just weeks of being completed. so much more fun to play than a non stealth thief that i may turn him into another tankmage.

@Whomever suggested it above:
50 resist is basically a waste of points.

i'd rather harms do 2-4 dmg than ten when i'm trying to recall. i'm less selective than most, which means i'm not only after extremely valuable items, so i steal more and am attacked more. sometimes i'm short on black pearl and don't feel like paying for it... i'll hit up the same spots in order to steal 100+ pearl. they'll catch onto me, reveal, harm and hallyspam and i can still get away. i've only died twice. once was after getting recall off and once was because i got greedy and didn't care. also in dungeons sometimes monsters turn on me. for my style opf play i like it.
