Re: Joined a week ago but considering leaving...
I never die to these types of things, I do just recall because it's usually a hopeless 3-on-1 if I stick around and fight (with my 1 being a lockpicking treasure hunter), but I do find it annoying that it's ghosting that's leading to some of the issues. It's not really about taking 7 minutes to restock or 3 minutes to recall out and then just come back when they're gone. Wish I had a solution for it... at the very least, ghosts should be (era-accurately) disconnected after some period of inactivity, which is why we all refer to it as "macroing" murder counts off. You had to be doing something in-game, even as a ghost, or risk getting bounced. Though from a technology perspective, this wouldn't really impact anyone's gameplay, since we have a very simple way to set up a macro. It would just create more traffic and lag as all the ghosts would be "using" Spirit Speak every 10 seconds, or 5 minutes, or whatever.

Congrats, you have met the cheapest UOSA players ever to exist.
These guys are not at all that good at solo pvp, this is why they roll in groups 100% of the time. Here is a small list of the things they do.
* Camp Terra Keep. With a stealth/reveal character they will steal all Balron loot form other players and try to kill/trap people in the Balron room. They also use this character as a "ghost" to spy on people in Tera Keep. The character's name is PainpipeTG and can be found in the center of the balron room 90% of the time the server is up.
Note: Malice's little brother plays this PainpipeTG character, and if you kill him (simply by revealing and letting the balrons take care of him) Malice get's VERY upset and will show up within seconds (80% of the time).
* Town Gates. TG has a bunch of blue characters they roll with, mostly (Malice, Unknown, Dunpeal...etc) and when they get in a fight with reds they almost always resort to the "Town Gate" method. They, usually Malice, will find a narrow pathway behind a house, open a gate and stand behind the gate so that anyone who runs though there will unknowingly run though the gate. This is how they win 95% of their fights... Hardly a win.
Note: Malice is known to do this in Tera keep alot.. he has his own little system worked out there. The idea is you open a gate behind a house or some sort of structure so that the gate cannot be seen, he then lures reds to him and yea... Gwhacked.
* Grief. TG are GRIEFERS! and in the worst way. If you ever try to hold and event for the benefit of the shard they will always show up and try to stop it from happening. Usually they will come in shouting senseless diatribes like "Fu*k your mom" or "We are TG bi*ch". Very stupid moves if you consider that these guys love playing here yet they do everything in their power to prevent others from even wanting to play. Good thing there is only around 5 of them d-bags.
Note: Don't be a griefer, its uber lame.
*Multi-clienting archer bots. If you ever go to the TG guild tower in TG town (I still don't know how these 5 griefer's got their own town....) you will notice that they multi client far more then 3 accounts (Malice in particular). If you threaten them, they will log on about 9 or 10 archer bots and station them on their roof to shoot you while running around on their blue tank mages. I've personally seen and taken screen shots of Malice running over 4 accounts himself (dunno how he breached the account cap, prolly by saying his little brother needs 3 accounts).
Note: Yea I did the archer bot thing too, but at least I stayed within the 3 accounts that I'm allowed and I certainly don't fall back on it as my only defense....
*D-baggery. This one is short and sweet. They place large bounties on their own heads (the comedians) to I guess look cool... lol.
If you ever see a group of these comedians on, please send me an IRC message as there is a ongoing campaign to vanquish these foes.
TG should QQ.

You do get to a point where you won't die much. Just hang in there.
In the meantime, here is a story of me and chum sticking it to TG:

no need to quit over something so trivial. i agree, ghosting is lame and if it was upto me there would be a one account limit, but its not. only thing you can do is adapt. recall out at the slightest sign of pks showing up, and be prepared to defend yourself.

There are probably 40 people in IRC who would love to find the comedians in-game. If you are having consistent problems with them, hang out in IRC and tell people when they're at a location. The chance to earn 300k+ from killing one red will motivate people. On top of all that, you put these guys in stat which will buy you some time. Make it a habit to report PK's in #uosapvp and you won't have PK problems for long. Welcome to Secondage!checkmate wrote:I just joined last week. It was an amazing experience to relive 1998 UO.
But lately I've noticed a group of PKs who are named after comedians aka. the Terror Guard [TG] Guild (their blue alts). I was wondering how they always knew when specific people were in a dungeon/space, and I realized that they have a ghost or an idle player constantly hiding in dungeons probably running on a secondary screen (due to the 3 account per person).
It made me wonder a few things. How many players actually play here? The stats say its around 450 per night, but is it really tons of multis? Does anyone know the real statistic?
I don't want to leave, and I probably won't for a while so it IS fun, but I just wanted to say its really lame when someone is constantly idling just waiting for a blue to come in, then they swoop in a gang of 4-5 reds and just leave right away since they already know whats up. More reds probably do this, not just these guys, but I was using them as an example.
TLDR; You should limit 1 account per IP.

Hey guys thanks for the kind works. Made my initial post out of haste and kind of opened myself up for flaming since I was being a critic right off the bat, but instead you all responded with reason.
Nice to see a great bunch of people here. Can't wait to meet more of you.

I am brand spanking new to this game.... I was a little disheartened at the beginning of this thread but...... I am happy to see there are those out there that want to have fun and not just the griefing I have seen before.
Look forward to meeting all of you!!

Re: Joined a week ago but considering leaving...
The only thing that bugs me is that there is hardly anyone in dungeons most of the time which makes PKing super easy.
I wish it was "the way it was" and have loads of people playing all over in the dungeons then there wouldn't be so much griefing.
gotta vote vote vote!!!!!

Re: Joined a week ago but considering leaving...
The 1 account per player idea would work if we had the same amount of active players as OSI did. In our current situation, it would make the shard look really empty. Also probably completely disestablish the shard if done abruptly, and make things even harder for new players, as the old ones already have macroed characters and macroing is really harder with 1 character per account.
Maybe the idea would be "ok" if the shard was like this since it started, or maybe restart (with the meaning of wipe everything out) the shard, but this clearly wont happen and can endanger years of work.

Ghosting dampens the randomness and unpredictablity of the shard, which is a requirement for the enhanced enjoyment of everyone here.
Concerning 1 account per Player: It cant be one account per IP address, it would have to be 1 account per MAC address at least! (if implemented); which would require a special launcher to detect the current machine's MAC address and send it off to the server to be checked and make using the game less simple as it is now.
Concerning appearances; the only thing that may be different would be a few less people macroing at banks and at homes (who you never really see anyways). I wouldnt worry about people being limited to 1 account effecting the health of the game. Maybe if items/etc could be consolidated into 1 account it wouldnt be soo hard for those who enjoy the material side of the game to accept such a change.
Otherwise this shard is quite alive and well, I must say; because it isnt uncommon to run into people randomly around the world! There are plenty of people around, and I know it wouldnt seem much less even if they allowed 1 character/1 account!

Re: Joined a week ago but considering leaving...
I can completely relate to Checkmate's post, just going on my third week here myself.
I think the problem is most everyone has a pk character (understandably), so if you see a player (blue/red) in a popular hunting spot, it's usually a bad thing.
The required reclusiveness you must maintain while hunting makes it hard to meet and make allies in the game, completely different from the actual T2A era.
The best advice I can offer is bank often.
Good news is, despite how irritating it is to be on the losing end of a pk, most the players here are actually pretty cool about it afterwards, offering gates back to where ya need to be and leaving you to reclaim your less than standard gear... I even managed to have one guy revive me and let me have all my items back after realizing how much of a newb I was to the server.

This behaviour isn't "cool", its simply a perversion or clever adaptation of the PK role. It tries to twist the way they are seen from outcasts to accepted citizens of britian. This is not the way OSI intended, nor is part of the vision and experience that UO geninely offers.
Dont accept gates by reds, dont accept rezes by reds, dont accept heals by reds. They chose to be red, so let them take responsibility for their place in the "world" accodingly.
If you are red, kill blues on sight, no mercy; if you are blue; kill reds on sight no questions asked. This "cool" stuff is nothing more then to create chronies out of blues so they act the way they want when they want.
The sooner you start to see this and how they see you as "farming" (like you see monsters) the sooner you realise the reality of the situation.
This attitude of accepting reds as "normal" needs to change, lines need to be redrawn and positions need to be taken for the shard to be taken seriously and provide more tension for growth.

I see no reason to make my life more difficult by taking such an extreme view of reds and blues. Essentially you're asking me to treat every red as a demon and every blue as a saint, which might sound good on the forums but will get you griefed, killed and drylooted in game. Probably by blues.Myg wrote:"Good news is, despite how irritating it is to be on the losing end of a pk, most the players here are actually pretty cool about it afterwards, offering gates back to where ya need to be and leaving you to reclaim your less than standard gear...
