I believe it started in T2A, when drops were increased dramatically, yet NPC goods cost the exact same. The cost per living vs the insane drops is the problem, a gold sink is a temporary bandaid at best (and I seriously doubt one would even get that far).

There is no accurate or even proper fix to this.

As far as your earlier post I believe tamers are probably the only ones pulling in 60k/hr. While many people have tamers not everyone does. And isnt a bandaid better then a gushing wound?

Well take into account, is it even a problem? Were there gold sinks in the era? This would be direct intervention IMO.

What I mean is that just about every monster drop far exceeds the resources it generally takes to bring them down. In UO, there really is very little risk when you think about it, there is only room for gains and you can never get below zero.

The system is flawed as a whole, no gold sink will even put a noticable dent in it.

Stranger: I think making most if not all of the rewards non-transferable would be a big help. And would be in the spirit (as I see it) of the rewards, which is a reward for YOU, not a check redeemable for gold pieces.

I have an idea which has been discussed in the past and I have been against it, but I'm starting to come around on it if implemented with VERY strict guidelines.

The idea is to have a reward or purchaseable add-on be the ability to improperly place houses.

The example in my head is if there is a small bush, piece of dirt (road), or unlevel terrain that is blocking where you'd like to place a house, you could pay to have that ignored and the house placed by staff.

Rules I can think of right now:
1) cost would be a fee of the price of the house deed for each tile you wish to be ignored in placement. I.E. if you want to place a 7x7 with a rock in the middle, it will cost you 43,800. If you want to place a 7x7 with a rock in the middle and a rock on the side, 87,600 gp. If you want to place a keep on land that has a dirt (road?) spot in the middle, that will cost you 665,200. This is all in addition to the normal price of the deed. I'm aware that the relative cheapness of a 7x7 in this system may be a concern, and probably should be more expensive. Maybe a flat 250k flat fee per tile? I dunno.
2) house must be refreshed as normal, but may not be transfered
3) "improper" cannot the 5-tile front and back border of house placement, nor the 1 tile border on each side. Other rules would need to be applied too, I'm sure.

Anyways... just a preliminary version of an idea. Again, the rules would have to be VERY comprehensive to avoid game-breaking impact. And the houses would have to be non-transferable, else you're running into the same issue as the movable uniques.

How about a property tax on houses. A regular tax per house at a percentage of the value of the house to be payed each month or the house becomes condemned. I doubt that would ever happen, but I like the idea of charging tax on player town add ons to keep them from decaying.

I have suggested in the past the ability to buy small on top of your tower, and perhaps (For an insane amount of gold) a couple people could place a small in protection.. Though the ability to do these things was pre t2a, you still saw this during the t2a. I remember I always wanted a small that was in protection in east britt on the Catskills shard.

I like this idea, it's an interesting way to introduce some things that while not possible in era, were still seen.

Perhaps 5mil as a starting point for the small on top of a tower? God knows how much for a GZ house.

Sometimes I wonder about you...

Err your suggesting Derrick should take gold from peoples banks and delete it? If so, somehow I dont think that will go over so well.
I didn't realize "Let us throw some gold out" meant "Derrick should totally remove players funds".

If you want to have a goldsink, waste your money, Let it decay, buy houses, let them decay. Buy 300 cats and put them around in Britain and naming them. Then go to sleep.

I agree with the houses in town guards. Or maybe even a small on a tower. I remember those. But they should be near extortion cost. 20,000,000 or more.

I know what your thinking right now your thinking what a idiot that will never happen.
I also know what your replies will be something along the lines of "what a retard" or "go back to trammel".
Those things added would be about the only thing i can think of that would make me come back to the shard.

Decisions regarding gold sinks shouldnt be up to public imo. I am almost sure Staff has some decent ideas rearding gold sinks, however almost all gold sink ideas have to do with era innacuracy (i.e neons, stuff from other eras, idea like this thread etc). Population and server stable has also a lot to do with economy. Back then you couldnt just farm 50k/per hour so easily.

As long as auto events are around I would say pay to play events are an ideal god sink. 1k to sign up etc.

A gold sink is omthing that removes 'gold' from the economy. Its pretty simple.
Buying regs from npcs or anything else is a large gold sink.
Even if unusable tradeable items (rares etc) are bought for gold, gold is removed from the system.
