Stuck wrote:So, I'm looking through all the original files on my T2A CD. Reading this thread has made me curious as to whether other old school files would work with the current client. You think the original map file would work? What about the fonts file? Would that possibly allow the old school gradient text that everyone loves?

edit: Maybe in the future these old school files could be endorsed by UOSA by being included in the UO install download?
I love the gradient text... It was a configuration in the uo.cfg, however it no longer seems to work in the newer clients. I was using a Client 2.0.3 the other day (different shard) with the same install, gradient text worked with that. The map files do work as well.

So I searched it and yep....I asked about it in a similar thread Hemp made months back.

I soooo wish we could get that old intro, and character creation screen back.

Next patch, I want music for Windows Vista, the treasure chest and old character creation screen!
I really like the chest opening main screen too back in the day. However, for me, I think the novelty will wear off in about 3 log ins. Especially if I just crashed and am rushing to get back into the game iykwim.

The old school character creation screen is nice but I kind of like the skin tones all laid out instead of on a scroll bar. I always fuss over the teeniest difference in cool/warm undertones for my chars.

I have a wireless USB modem thing which sometimes gives me 1500 ping lag spikes so I feel pretty content with my oldschool experiance.

Anyone have anything else to add?
Yes, uncheck "Use Smart CPU Reduction" in razor. That is not era accurate, UO rums smoother without it.

Don't forget to occasionally run to places instead of recalling everywhere! Meeting random people in the middle of nowhere is what uo is all about!

Please add:

Have your mom come over and unplug your internet to simulate picking up the phone, then yell at you about how she has to use the phone .

The link for this verdata file is here. Simply save and overwrite it in your UO folder (while your client is closed)

5. Check "Use Pre-AOS status Window" in the Razor options tab.
Anyone have a new download for #2? The file doesn't seem to be hosted anymore.

Also, for the Pre-AOS status window option in Razor, it doesn't work for me. I click and reopen the window, but I'm stuck with the AOS status window. Anyone know the solution for this?

Thanks.

This Pre-AOS status windows doesn't work in the 7.x clients.
Download recommended client from our website :)
It would be nice also to get the old graphics into our recommented client.

Awesome. My pleasure. The 5.0.8.3 client also has the correct map files. 6.x+ can cause you to become stuck in some (but very few) spots.

For anyone that doesn't know what is meant by the old and new status gump, here they are:
T2A(ish) Status
T2A(ish) Status
OldStatus.jpg (9.73 KiB) Viewed 2396 times
AOS Status
AOS Status
NewStatus.jpg (14.84 KiB) Viewed 2396 times
Note that in the "Pre-AOS" status gump Sex is replaced with followers/slots which does not apply in T2A and will always read as 0/0
