So when did the patch go in on OSI where this changed? I seem to recall this always being the case - playing since may '99. I'm not going to go patch scouring, it's essentially your option in this argument to prove me wrong with facts. In any case, I really only need to mention that via personal account, almost everyone here can remember being pelted with arrows near the guardzone in moonglow, or gaining archery on them from outside the zone. You could do that, and the reason it worked was because the guard was flagged as attackable to you after you ressed, and therefor no more guards would be called becuase you did not re-commit your criminal offense.Do you remember how that worked?

The point I am trying to make is that these 2 scenarios did both exist. The difference is that the scenario in which the guards reach was outside the zone line, was exploited on OSI, and prompty changed as I recall. I mentioned before, people pre-casting recall and noto-killing pk's, someone also posted an account of absorbing explosion and then running into the guard zone. The question here is, "when did the rules change".
I know that our target era supports the patch notes that contain the "Explosion damage will now be instant" (or similar) patch. This does not mean that explosion would instantly hit, it meant that the damage would be calculated, and it would be impossible to cast MR to nullify an already targeted explosion. Why do you think that is?

Guards would, and still do teleport outside of guard zone to kill criminals that attack an innocent inside guard zone. The one limitation is that they would only attack the person if they were within a certain distance of guard zone.
That is to say, on OSI a player could cast explosion on someone inside guard zone from outside guards, and run away as quickly as possible from their victim. If they were on a horse and had a sufficient connection, the player could put enough distance between themselves and their victim to avoid being guardwhacked by that player.

The only time I ever remember outrunning being possible was that small time when you could get away by running straight east/west during UO:R. That isn't how it works here, Kaivan. Guards are not bugged on this server.. You must have line of sight to call guards and have them kill a criminal.

And, to be real technical. You can even be red, in town, and still kill people, as long as nobody comes within LoS and says guards.
The line of sight, is between the player calling guards, and the player who is a criminal inside town. Else, guards will not come.
A classic way of killing people afk in town on Siege Perilous, was to load explosions on the afk player, and to cut a corner, breaking LoS, and hiding. You can also move, while "guards can now be called on you" in town, by teleporting, because the NPC check for calling guards, is "OnMove".
