Not at all flaming/trolling, just curious. please elaborate.
Thanks.

On fencing, I thought the only one handers are kryss, warfork and dagger. Warfork and kryss seem to powerful and common. So no real use for fencing. Same with Heavy X-bow and bow, but since there is the xbow left it would still be fun to have archery.

I ruled out two handers for simplicity's sake, because, as people have been saying, too many complications are bad. It is already a bit complicated. A long list of acceptable and unacceptable two handers only makes it worse.

What might be useful is to experiment some on the test center with these things and see what is too powerful and what isnt.

***Yet another revision is at the bottom of this page***

A Simplified Version of the Draft of the System:

1. Rules

1. All characters must conform to the restrictions on skills and equipment listed in the second section of this post (Skills and Equipment).

2. All players must make their characters public via MyUOSA.

3. Each guild will have a chosen color. Items of that color must be worn at all times.

4. Each guild requires its members to have the same name.

2. Skills and Equipment

Skills

FORBIDDEN SKILLS: Wrestling, Resisting Spells, Evaluate Intelligence, Meditation, Animal Taming

Spells and Equipment

FORBIDDEN SPELLS: Recall, Poison (Poison Field is allowed and potentially hilarious)

FORBIDDEN WEAPONS: All fencing weapons, all two handed melee weapons, Heavy X-bow, bow, katana, broadsword, war ax

FORBIDDEN ARMORS/SHIELDS: all metal and bone armor, heater shields

OTHER FORBIDDEN ITEMS: Potions (except nightsight and lesser poison), mounts, trapped pouches, all magic weapons/armor/shields

POISON: A weapon can only be poisoned with lesser poison.

appears reasonable to me...sounds like a real fun idea!

I vote in favor of something like this. Personally, I am terrible at pvp and this sounds like a really good time! Let me know what I can do to help.

P.S - my wild card skill is definitely going to be stealing...watch out mages!
ALL UR MANDRAKE R BELONG TO ME!!!!

I'd participate - sounds basically like East v West type battles I've seen done on other servers.

One problem I do see, as far as the rules/enforcing goes:

How do you know which Soapy Boner is the one breaking rules if EVERYONE is a similar clad and identically named Soapy Boner? Perhaps doing something like a common first or last name (like Bobs v Freds) would be better, or <Something_Clever> Boner.

I like the idea, but too many rules. I think you're looking for a Bobs type of thing, but our shard isn't quite big enough for that (and it's too easy to macro a super-bob).

Here's what I would propose:

Any skills you want, except wrestling.
Only weapons allowed: club, viking sword.
No poisoned weapons.
No magic weapons.
No mounts.
No recall.

The viking sword is a little better than the club in terms of damage, but the stamina loss might make the difference. Most of the fighting will likely be in town, in Britain probably, so Eval and direct damage spells aren't much of an issue. No mounts should help keep people from running. Let's face it... these guilds are on a suicide mission.

And I like chance's idea of the first name, common last name convention.

Well surely it'd be easier to do a sort of bob vs ed war thing?

While not everyone likes this, it seems to me that there is enough interest to warrant an attempt. I will make a different post about it when it is up and running.

Thanks.

I wanted a good deal of diversity in weapon choice, but perhaps for simplicity's sake restricting to club, viking and x-bow would be better?

The thing about poison is that I had imagined no one would take swords over maces unless you could at least lesser poison to block heals.

I don't want everything to happen in town, as that limits what mages can do with walls, blades and mass damage spells. That's what I want to see mages do in addition to providing support with cures and heals and the occasional finishing blow from an EB. No med means mages have to take some care in how they do that. Eval. would be a big deal if no one has resist.

A few more possible changes. What do people think about:

1. Limiting weapons to one per skill, e.g., clubs for maces, viking sword for swords, x-bow for archery. This would require some test to see what weapons go best together.

2. Not requiring that you even provide your own equipment for events. I and someone else would set up storehouses of acceptable equipment (except reagents and possibly arrows) to be doled out during arranged events and even to be given out freely when convenient. We could even set up events to have different equipment every time.

Do remember that should be a side project to whatever else you do. This isn't meant to be a full time character. You just look for trouble when you like and during officially arranged events. Events would be announced ahead of time, you show up at the arranged places with nothing on you except possibly reagents and arrows, you are given the other materials, and then you are whisked away to the a predetermined location for a predetermined battle.

I am a complete and total newb to PvP, never done it - but this I find interesting. The restrictions make it attractive to me because I know it will be simple! If this is still going on in the future (i'm still really new to the shard), I will probably delve into this!

Chum I think this is a great idea!
