Lots of Questions - Answer what you can!

Post by shire99 »

Hello everybody, I really want to start playing UOSA but there are some obstacles in the way, if I don't start now I will start later, for sure. Regardless, I have a lot of questions... I realize there are a lot; if you can just give some insight as to what you do know, that would be greatly appreciated. I'll get right to it.

1. Concerning warhammers, spears, and hallys: are there crushing, paralyzing, and concussion blows? If so, what skill determines the chance to land one of these strikes? Anat or Wep skill?

2. How do you utilize "heat seeking"explosion pots?

3. How does parrying and damage absorption work? How is the absorbed damage calculated?

4. On some other free shards I have played, it is easier to gain in skill for the less total skill the character has. Is UOSA like this? for example, if I'm making a nox fencer, is it better to gm poisoning first (since it's tedious and expensive), or should I not worry about what order the skills are GM'd in?

5. When a character uses a lightning, fireball, or magic arrow wand, are that char's mager, eval int, or anything else (int?) checked? Is the spell checked against the target's resist? Are the delays for the wands as to when you can use it again dependent upon what type of wand it is? What is this delay?

6. How long after you cast Magic Reflect can you cast it again? Are the times different depending on when you ran out of it? Does it ever wear off on its own, without the character getting casted on? How many circles does it reflect? Does Inscrip make a difference in this shard?

7. Is anatomy required to inflict DP with a DP weapon (in addition to poisoning, of coruse)? How is the chance of level of poison inflicted calculated with spells and weapons?

8. What is the damage and tick rate for lesser, normal, greater, and DP poison?

9. Does the poison spell check resist?

10. I have read a little bit that DP is cured just about 100% of the time by GC pots... would it be a waste of money or a waste of a skill slot to put poisoning on my fencer stealther?

11. What are the best stats for an Eval Warrior?

12. Say I have Explosion pre-casted, and I run up to someone I want to attack. Is there any way to attack their character without dropping or cancelling my targeter?

13.Please shed some light onto the whole idea of T-hunters... this is an aspect of UO that I have never been interested in, until now. Are any of the skills expensive? I am thinking of starting one of these as my first character...if it is financially reasonable to do so, then my second character that will be my main moneymaking character will be a t hunter...I am reluctant to make another tamer... What is a good template for a T-Map character? How exactly do treasure maps work? Is lockpicking a must? Is fishing the only way to get maps (other than buying them)? Is there always a chest at the end, and is it always guarded by monsters? How much gold can they bring in...is it comparable to tamers?

I realize there are tons of questions here. If you can just answer one of them, that would be great...maybe the next person can pick up another. Thanks for your time in reading/responding this.

1) No

3) Parry chance equals 1/2 your parry skill. Damage absorbed equals 1/2 the AR of the shield, or the full AR of the shield if you're blocking an arrow

4) no

6) immediately (assuming it was taken down by a spell). time-wise, it never wears off

12) razor functions :-)

13) lockpicking is expensive, time-wise. You can get to 95.0 skill from picking GM locked boxes, but from 95.1 to 100.0, you need to pick high-level chests in dungeons (there's only about 10 of them, and you get a .1 gain on about 1 in 25 chests). The maps are found on monsters, and the chests are always guarded by monsters. I'd suggest a template of:

Magery
Meditation
Lockpicking
Cartography
Music
Provocation
Hiding

You can swap in Wrestling for either Hiding or Meditation if you like, but the above is what I use. As for gold, you can make more gold with taming. I have both, and if there's a high activity of PKs at the time I'm playing, I'll typically switch to my treasure hunter and do a map, since the maps are in such isolated spots you never run into a PK. If there's low PK activity and I can farm in peace, I will use my tamer and make a higher rate of gold.

1. No special blows

2. Mainly as chasers just drop the pot when you see the one

3. I don't know the calculations but i was told if parried a hit will only do 1/2 dmg

4. Nope it's all down to how high in the skill you are not total skillpoints

5. Eval and magery are checked.

6. Right away but one spell will take it off.
7. No

8. You can heal through poison so it's not really used but I believe its default of 2 4 8 16.

9. Yes

10. Yes tbh it costs alot of money.

11. Eval warriors aren't very good here but something like 100 85 40 str dex int

12. Razor = Set last target, attacklast

13.You get the map, decode it on your thunter, find the location on the stratics site, stand above it start digging, monsters will spawn when the chest first starts and when you take items from it. To open anything above a lvl 1 chest requires lockpicking

I realize there are tons of questions here. If you can just answer one of them, that would be great...maybe the next person can pick up another. Thanks for your time in reading/responding this.[/quote]
