Re: Treasure Maps - Shouldnt show the level of the map.
I had this discussion with a friend of mine while doing some T-maps a few weeks ago. We both distinctively remembered maps during t2a only being "A tattered treasure map", with no descriptive indicating the level of the map. Then we talked about how we used to have to have a seperate bag for maps and how if you weren't careful with your orginization you could end up with a big suprise when you went to go dig up a level 1 map and it turns out to be a level 5.
What the OP stated is accurate to t2a...t-maps did not have labels, but as I am too lazy to look for proof to make things more difficult for myself, I decided to let it slide.
Kudos to the OP though for actually finding proof to the matter.

Re: Treasure Maps - Shouldnt show the level of the map.
I think this is pretty definitive, and this is my recollection as well.
Having had a treasure hunter in era, I'm also aware that the treasure hunter did have to decode the map and dig it up, you could not decode the map and give it to someone else to dig. My memories are not necessarily enough to warrant a change of this magnitude of course, there is another thread on this issue.
I would consider this a heads up that both these corrections will likely be made soon.

That is the way it worked from my recollections...Derrick wrote: Having had a treasure hunter in era, I'm also aware that the treasure hunter did have to decode the map and dig it up, you could not decode the map and give it to someone else to dig. Derrick could you review the required skills to decode each level map? The wiki information seems to be a bit off.Derrick wrote:I think this is pretty definitive, and this is my recollection as well.

If/when this gets implemented, think the best way to tell will be to make several chars on a third account with different cartography skill levels to determine what lvl map it is. To just trust someone that X map is Y is pretty risky.

This is currently how it works here; you have to have the required cartography skill to be able to decode a map and dig it up. A map can be re-"decoded" by other cartographers (I can open a map, decide not to do it and sell it to a fellow cartographer) but that person will still need to have the required skill to open the map and dig it up. Only the first person to decode the map gets the cartography skill gain, anyone else will simply just "decode" it.Faust wrote:That is the way it worked from my recollections...Derrick wrote: Having had a treasure hunter in era, I'm also aware that the treasure hunter did have to decode the map and dig it up, you could not decode the map and give it to someone else to dig. You cannot just decode a devious map and hand it over to your non-cartography character to dig it up.

Re: Treasure Maps - Shouldnt show the level of the map.
Aye, looking into the levels and requirements. We've researched the requirements pretty heavily and there was one change some time ago which may be why the wiki might be wrong.
The current skill requirements are:
1: 0
2: 60.0
3: 70.0
4: 90.0
5: 99.5 (Will be fixing this, should be 100.0)

Aye, thanks. I just verifed this.hiicha wrote:You cannot just decode a devious map and hand it over to your non-cartography character to dig it up.

[edit] Decoding a Treasure Map
I have a map -- now what do I do with it? Once you find a map, simply double click it to decode it. Your ability to decode the map is based on your cartography skill -- the higher your skill, the more more likely you are to be able to decode any and all treasure maps. (If you are unable to decode a map, you may pass it along or sell it to someone who can). These maps may be stored safely in your bank, until you decide to hunt after it; for the treasure will not begin to "decay away" until you actually dig up the chest (after which time the chest and its contents will linger for about no more than 3-4 hours).
Skill required to decode a map Map Level Skill Level
1 0-30% Cartography required
2 60-80% Cartography required
3 70-90% Cartography required
4 90-95% Cartography required
5 99.2-100% Cartography required
These are minimum requirements. The higher your cartography skill, the more detail the map will show. The pin will always be on the exact location of the treasure.
After decoding your treasure map, the center will be indicated with a single pin.
Once decoded, this map cannot be passed off to another player -- the first person to decode the map must also be the one who digs up the treasure.

the last line reads the FIRST person to decode the map MUST ALSO BE THE ONE to dig up the treasure
