Re: Poison
Well, seems that Batlin's using demo code from a copy he got in June of 98. Short of us being lied to, I'm afraid we'll have to give up on our quest to not let Lesser Cures be useful against Deadly Poison poogoblin ole buddy.

Batlin,
When you get some free time could you verify that the rest of the 4/13/08 patch did in fact make it into the demo?
http://wiki.uosecondage.com/index.php?t ... 04/13/1998
It would be the last patch before the demo got put out if it did in fact make it into the demo and with OSI always delaying stuff I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't make it into the demo.
(I'm not computer savvy enough to get the demo going, and you could probably do in 5 minutes what it'd take me 2 hours to do).
If Batlin returns and said the rest of those patch notes made it in the demo then I'll stop beating this horse. (Though it was meant to be the way I and Stratics and others remember it, according to the patch note, sorry couldn't help myself).
Re: Poison
I think you're somehow mistaken on the source of the demo, I didn't get that copy in June 98.Well, seems that Batlin's using demo code from a copy he got in June of 98.
It was officialy released on the very first Ultima Online: Second Age CD.
Later releases of Second Age didn't come with the demo on the CD.
The UOX team already decrypted the DAT file back in 1999 : DemoDat 0.34 -> http://web.archive.org/web/199901272124 ... files.html.
Also the Woflpack team did some reversing on the demo as they found NPC children inside it and they published a method on how to use them. You can read about that in the help file inside the (older) Wolfpack source code. I lack the time to actually try this myself, but it's on my TODO list, because I really wonder if it's true or not.
The date of June 1998 was determined by comparing patch notes with the decompiled scripts, using the UOSA forum search function you should be able to locate that discussion with ease.
Again: the CD contents including the official demo installer are inside the T2A zip downloadable from the main site.
If someone lied to you than it would be OSI.

Re: Poison
Have you had a chance to specifically test some of the other notes from the 4/13/98 patch?
I'm just worried maybe this one got overlooked for the demo, that is all.

Re: Poison
I did a quick look, a lot of patch notes from april are client related and are bug fixes, most of those bug fixes are difficult to verify because the previous incorrect behaviour is unknown.Have you had a chance to specifically test some of the other notes from the 4/13/98 patch?
Those I found checkable are in there:
Patch notes from 6/11/98 are also inside the scripts (but not all)...Marking a rune will always mark the rune at the location of the caster, not of the rune.
Hiding whilst fighting will become completely impossible. This means that if anyone is attempting to attack you, or you have currently got an opponent active, you will not be able to hide. You will still be able to run away and hide.
You will be able to resign from your guild anywhere, by simply saying out loud, "I resign from my guild."
Acid blood will no longer harm ranged weapons, nor give the erroneous message when no weapon is held.

Re: Poison
Great, thanks Batlin. Then for the time being I have no further proof than what has already been iterated.
Re: Poison
Finding that this didn't make it in to the demo, makes me wonder if the demo didn't contain this complete patch.
Thus again not having to write of a reputable source of information (stratics poisoning/achy essay)

Ultima Online Patch Notes for 04/13/1998
These are the official patch notes from the original release of Ultima Online. These patch notes were found at [1].
This update listing includes the contents of the mini-patch that went in on 4/20/98.
* You can no longer teleport with a teleporting object and stay invisible.
Batlin said the demo doesn't contain the complete 6/11/98 patch (only partial), who is to say it didn't contain the complete patch before the 6/11/98 one?4/13/98 patch wrote: Ultima Online Patch Notes for 04/13/1998
There are now five levels of poison. The difference between them is the rate at which your health goes down. These levels of poison will have different levels of difficulty when you try to cure them. You will be able to make differing levels of poison with alchemy.

Re: Poison
With this comment please look at the guys first sentence, "when will it be improved, again". Meaning that at one time (between 4/98 and before 9/9/99) it did not act this way, it acted the way the 4/98 patch note mentions.UHOC 9/9/99 wrote:Glamdring - *Gorbak* When will Poisoning Be improved again?? I mean, I have a Grandmaster Assassan/Alchemist, and when I deadly poison someone, with only 30 magery they can cure on himself themself?
Now if we are aiming to replicate ~Nov '99 it seems poison here is correct as somewhere along the lines there was a "stealth" nerf to poison (this happened many times unintentionally and intentionally on OSI). Now whether or not this was intended is for Derrick to decide as this poison change happened during T2A like many things.

I don't know if this is still up for debate but...

Yes, I thought so. I don't remember where in all these threads though that there was some discussion and so, I'm sharing what I've found.Derrick wrote:These both hit with Lethal poison (lvl5) on UOSAKraarug wrote:Lvl 5 confirmed for
