park your own ghost there then, join a guild, get a better recall macro. dont argue for gimping other people because you cannot compete.

That is like saying all baseball players better take the 'roids so they can "compete" with the players that are already doing it. And if they don't want to be that cheap, and yes, what you are doing with your ghost is cheap, they should quit the game.

The only reason your analogy works is because steroids are illegal. What if protein shakes, vitamins and working out were illegal, you could say the same thing about that too, but it's not so it's called leveling the playing field/competition. In all actuality using your own ghost is can considered more of leveling out the playing field just as much as working out to compete in a sport.

the pk still has to recall in, disrupt you effectively and kill you, yet you think a ghost is the problem?

i think you need to work on your escape arts sir.
Not that this is a callout for the shard to come find and kill me... but i have died once on a farmer on this shard and it was over 7 months ago... and to a dexer in shame as i was boxed and poisoned by a scoprion... I believe his name was Jesus Christ... The fact that i was killing earths in shame should tell you how old my char and account was...Believe me, im not too worried about escaping reds... and infact i have reds... but dont need a ghost to get kills with them.

So like i said, you are missing the point. The fact is ghosts are being used as a tool they were never intended to be. I understand people who are afraid to deal with the variables UO always has provided are now used to ghosting all their favorite gank and taming spots... I understand that the combinaion of getting used to using a ghost as a scout combined with the general fear of trying to PK anyone who is even remotely prepared will lead to blatant defense of a non era accurate method.

Free accounts are not era accurate :-)

This is a circular debate that's been done before.

i didnt say mechanic... i said method if you want to reread that.

The act of "Ghosting" as it is being used here today is not era accurate.

Why so apposed to a change? Im really curious? Would it be that hard to Farm/PK/Tame without the use of ghosts?

As far as era accurate goes... It was accurate for someone to log out of their main, scout a opposing guild base with a ghost and come back and report to the guild. I know guilds did this... (my guild did this).

Thats not what is going on now here. that isnt the complaint.

As brought up in AFK macroing debates it is believed that OSI had kicks set up for non active chars... What would that do to ghosting? (Razor makes this too easy to work around but would be pretty easy to spot i guess.)

Perhaps after a a certain time (long enough that your corpse has disappeared you could be booted to the entrance of the dungeon you are in (as mentioned earlier in the thread?) if you are a ghost.

Any real advantage or disadvantage to this?

(besides being not era accurate?)

When I first started reading this, I was like "yeah get rid of ghosting" but as I read on... I thought about it and it's an alright concept.

A few short ideas/observations:

1. everyone has 3 accounts, so why doesn't the farmer have a ghost there just to make sure he/she is alone?

2. (stated multiple times already) Learn to escape, make a recall macro.. use trapped pouches, run/hide etc

3. I use to stand around til I had a full pack, but realistically that's stupid. I bank about every 3 or so kills because honestly 1 BP 1 BM and 1 MR is equal to 11gp, making frequent bank trips only insures that you don't loose all your loot from farming.

You guys are missing the point.

The reason this sucks isn't because it makes PvM too hard, it's because it makes the PK's life too easy. They can sit in the safety of their Keeps, never risking anything until they are sure they have found a solo target that has a full load, and then pounce. This means that all the burden of risk is carried by the PvM'r.

Number of times I've seen PK's say "adapt and stop complaining" - too many to count

Number of times I've seen PK's actually adapt and stop complaining - ZERO

You act like removing ghosting would make PK'ing impossible.

Here's some straightforward questions.

What does ghosting bring to the shard? How does ghosting make the shard a better place to be?

How does ghosting encourage player interaction?

Who does ghosting benefit most?

If ghosting were "fixed", what negative effects would it have?

Not to mention ghosting should not be a free option.

Hawkins wrote:If it was just one PK ghosting one spawn on his third account, and having to wait 5 minutes to log each one in and check, it wouldn't be a problem.

When it's a guild of PK's using multiple accounts to watch multiple popular spawns at no risk to themselves from their keep, then it's a problem.

Give them some risk to balance their reward, and I think people will be a little less worried about it. Part of the risk of PK'ing is not knowing whether you are going to find a solo farmer or a guild of anti's. Farmers can't farm on a ghost, PK's shouldn't be able to scout on a ghost.
Very good point.

I've seen some good suggestions on fixing the problem. Funny the ones that come in here to flame "get good if a ghost is affecting you!". The point is, is that it's inaccurate risk-free gameplay that belongs in trammel.

I don't see the big deal. You get more money from farming the spots than from PK'ing the farmer's if you're a semi-intelligent person, so what's the problem? Your routine of PvM PvM PvM got interupted by someone who wanted to kill you?

The game isn't only about farming, that's not even half. PvP is a huge part of the game and with the parameters of T2A it is vital to be on your toes all the time. If you see a red name and you aren't prepared to fight them you better get your finger on your recall macro because he's there for you. So what if there's a ghost there?

And FYI a lot of the PK's only seem good in the first 10 seconds they attack you because they were ready for you, after you survive that it turns into an even fight because you're both fighting instead of you being attacked...

Non-issue to me, but everyone's different. Can't please everyone.

All the people arguing this seem to have blatantly missed the point. The issue in inaccurate, risk free game play.

What would happen if tomorrow everyone set up ghosts in all their favorite spots and then decided to run 3 miner clients while ghosting on their fourth? It may seem like a non issue, but inaccuracies are inaccuracies.

Having a non-kill able scout for anything seems silly to me in the first place.

...and they were only ready for you because they had a ghost spying on you. A ghost that you can't do anything to. A ghost that is, in game terms, an invincible god scout.

This invincible god scout prevents them from ever having to enter a situation in which they have a reasonable risk of losing anything. It's akin to shooting fish in an overstocked barrel.
