Just looking around really, have't played UO in 5 years, miss the character building and monster hunting, was always a bit of a loner , could defend myself but wasn't much for the PvP side of it. I heard rumors that you could do something to play offline and just build your skills and hunt without the interaction of other players, good and bad in this I know. I have an unreliable dialup connection where I am now, highspeed is a vague memory, so playing offline is the only way to enjoy the game, if that is even possible. Tried a few rpg's and just get stupid bored with the quest/advancement requirements.I want to build at my own pace, hunt when I want to hunt, or dig when I want to dig.
I loved playing UO , guess it will have to stay in my past , with the slinky and rubic's cube.

sooooooo are you asking to have your questions answered or are you just going to leave uo in the past!?

trammel was introduced to allow you to roam in a no-pvp land, but that was introduced after this shard's era .. so there is lots of pvp here (everyone is a pk!)

as far as playing offline..... ummmmmm........ no? its a server/client game, there is no offline.

the best you could hope to accomplish is to run your own local server (with RunUO) and have it set up however you want.. but it takes some work to customize the server... but you would have the whole world to yourself.. heh

or do like the rest of us that dont want to be bothered with pvp and macro your skills privately, hunt in semi-remote areas, and if youre going to venture to a popular area be prepared to be pkd and try to run and recall as fast as possible!

Thank you for the reply.
Yes it answered my question , and it looks like I will have to give up , or keep it given up, since I have an unreliable connection to any server. Unless I try to start my own, and I have no clue how to do that. Been fun but it's back to taking long naps and reading a lot on the weekends.

First, yes you can set up a server to play OFFLINE, and you can make it the way you want it. Check out RunUOs website and forums if you interested. I agree there is a bit of melancholy around here.

You should just play here and squelch any player you come in contact with, effectivly cutting you off from any social interaction.
