I also agree that level 4 and 5 tmaps are pretty weak on loot. I didn't receive a vanq until my 5th level 5 tmap and it was an xbow :(

Lvl 5 maps are far from easy with the super speedy ballys that pop. The loot from level 5 maps should definitely be more comensurate with the crazy amount of time it takes to GM lockpick in the first place.

After pulling four power katans out of 5 treasure chests in the past 24 hours, loot is fine, IMO.

tmap hunting here is screwed up, and I'm sure Derrick knows it. the system was once fairly accurate, but was nerfed dramatically. I've done multiple lvl 4/5 maps before and gotten 1 or two powers from a handful of the maps, and nothing else was worth keeping.

There have been multiple posts about this, but I'm sure Derrick doesn't want to fix it because he doesn't want to create a mass influx of good items into the world.

Tmap hunting sucks so badly, that I have a box filled with 200 maps (tons of lvl 4's and 5's) that i have NO intention of doing. What a waste.

No kidding! I know Derrick said he would fix this, however, I am not sure how long it takes him to get to shard problems. I am quite aware that this could be due to lack of man-power, or simply too busy, but I would like to see something done on this. Not to mention, I recentlly brought up being able to run the Poison Elemental down the stairs in Deceit, and he said, "This was definately era accurate, I will get right on this. 3 weeks later, still nothing has been done. =(

As for tmaps, I beleive the loot tables are exactly the same when it comes to magic items, for all level treasure maps, however when you have a level 5, you get more drops, thus more rolls, thus more chances to "win big".

On OSI, and on UOSA, I have never, ever, in my entire time playing (1997-2002) seen any clothing/jewelry item with more than 100 charges, and when they were above 60 charges, they weren't invis/tele/reflect, they were str/agi/cunning/protection. This is purely observation, I don't have any documentation in front of me at the moment to back my statement up.
wrong.

Alright, well how about you add something to the thread by pulling up some patch notes or even some 'weak' evidence to get the ball rolling?

Wow, dude.... You can't quote someone to rebuttal their statements with one word arguments... I'm sorry, but that's - haha

Here are some stratic notes on what items you would find in the T-chest. Just go down to guides and click treasure maps. Though the above link does not specify what types of magic items were found, later dates on stratics into June of 2000 state that there was no specific on the items magic lvls and "thus doing higher lvl maps has more magic items, increasing your chance of getting something good."

<@SecondAge> The cause is unknown and several townspeople were seen fleeing in fear
<Vintirex-droid> Several townspeople, Not a big enough problem imo

In 98/99 my main character was a Fisherman/Treasure Hunter. I was on one of the more populated shards, Pacific. In 99' Vanq Katanas with good accuracy were selling for over 1 million gold each! They were extremely rare.

Even power weapons were very rare and were selling for 20k each with good mods. The weapons you would usually see on vendors were Force.

Invulnerability armor was just as rare.

These items were so rare that almost nobody dared fight with them for fear of losing them. During the T2A era they were more or less collector's items. There was one time they frequently came out though, and that was during server wars - when the server was no longer saving.

After Trammel, all loot and skill gain was increased dramatically to the point where many players had their own personal Treasure Hunter and Fisherman, and the gear they found was essentially not worth the time to collect as it was so easily obtained and common. This must be the time period that you are remembering.

Further, in 99' Cartography was the most difficult skill to gain in the entire game. There were many threads in the forums discussing how many maps it took and how difficult it was. To GM, it required approximately 400 level 4 maps! That's not a typo - four hundred!

And you would only get .1 or .2 skill gain per day max! After you got your gains you would stop, otherwise the rest of the maps would be wasted. People always complained that the skill must be broken, but it was just extremely difficult to gain.

Lockpicking was also very difficult, though not quite as hard. And, believe it or not, even fishing used to be difficult.

So, what you had was extremely difficult skill gain, combined with extremely rare Vanq weapons. This is what resulted in the million gold prices.

I'll see if I can pull up some of the old posts which detail how many high level treasure maps people had to go through to GM cartography.

It was no joke!
