Re: bring em back
Is there a way to go back to CTF and domination with having real game mechanics, like people having to ress you , or toss you gear when you are looted etc? I know you can do it in game but it would seem more fair to have generated teams and more interesting locations.

Re: bring em back
why are you so hateful no one is demanding anything and no one is making snide comments, this thread is more like a petition to bring to their eyes what their shard population's views are on the auto events.Pac wrote:Demanding things from staff (who owe you absolutely nothing) and making snide, condescending comments about them is a great way to get them to give you what you want guys.

Yeah I guess I just imagined people making comments like this:Notorious wrote:why are you so hateful no one is demanding anything and no one is making snide comments, this thread is more like a petition to bring to their eyes what their shard population's views are on the auto events.Pac wrote:Demanding things from staff (who owe you absolutely nothing) and making snide, condescending comments about them is a great way to get them to give you what you want guys.

Re: bring em back
Just about anything is possible - though it is usually limited by the shards staffs ability to code it though. UO is not the easiest game to write custom code/scripts for, but it can be done. Look at all the amazing stuff some of these other shards have created.....it's crazy.archaicsubrosa77 wrote:Is there a way to go back to CTF and domination with having real game mechanics, like people having to ress you , or toss you gear when you are looted etc? Re: bring em back
Trick is to code it into the game without going overboard with the trammel mechanics - maintain the goal of the shard.

Re: bring em back
1. Are you motivated by silver?
Honestly silver isn't important to me.
2. By an organized system put on by staff?
Yes
3. Having a 100% safe zone to pvp/pvm in?
In some events. Be nice for people to watch tournaments who don't want to pvp but at least want to see who wins. With dungeon crawling, monsters in town, big boss, etc etc, I say not safe. It's fun to run around looting others and killing greys who try to loot too. Also it's very exciting when reds enter the scene.
4. Did you like the fact that they had multiple events per week (sometimes per day) which let you "play UO" without actually playing UO?
I don't know how you can possibly play uo without actually playing. That's kinda dumb. I like playing my games and too much events is overboard. I rather have events spread out instead of having multiple per week/day. I didn't play while there was multiple events per week, so I would have to say no, that I like what the shard has going now buttttt I wouldn't mind events like I said. Just not too common but not too rare.
5. Did you come to an era-accurate shard, assuming we'd always have out of era features such as automated events?
There will be no perfect UO Shard out there, we can never go back to what it was originally like back in the 90s. I disagree with the masks, neon hair, sandals, and etc. But as much as people complain about the era accuracy, I think we should put that behind us and enjoy the server and what the staff provides for us. I was hoping for an era accurate shard, but was disappointed when I first played by seeing all the things that weren't even suppose to be in this era. Even though I know this isn't all era accurate, I do enjoy my uo game, do not get me wrong. I don't mind if automated events are added. But yes I did come tot his era-accurate shard and from the first day I knew it really wasn't, but still I have my fun and enjoy this shard very much.
6. When you say "bring back events" are you referring to those pvp events (DD, CTF, tournaments) that leave a decent portion of the player base on the table or are you referring to all events (dungeon raids, DD, CTF, tournaments, bagball, craftathons, escort missions, etc)?
Honestly, I joined after all the events and tournaments were taken out. I can say I've enjoyed all the events so far past the 2 years I've been playing. In my opinion why not bring back both? On this shard there are many who love to pvp and pvm. Bring back pvp events for those who will enjoy and actually log in to play, but yet it would be nice to let players watch them without getting pk'd, I'm not sure if it was like that before, but at least if those who do not wish to pvp, will know that they can safely go to the tournament and know they are 100% safe from being pk'd. Dungeon raids/crawls, and all those other missions sound very exciting and fun. I love to roam with the huge group! I honestly enjoyed when Lord British took us to Deceit!! It was very fun and if we had more of those, including other kind of events that don't require so many people to die and those who can enjoy as well, I would certainly enjoy and play much more. Also gambling events(if that is acceptable) would be great too!
7. What specifically did you like about these events that you can't recreate as a community?
Organization and no fraud. When the community makes events, they sometimes are frauds. Trick people, pk them, take all their stuff. People do seem to get mad about that. I like when gms do the events and they feel a more organized and it's fun playing with the gms!

Re: bring em back
What's interesting about this thread is the lack of people saying no.....vast majority are in favor of them minus the valuable reward.
I think a trophy with your name on it is reward enough.. It gives you the "look at me factor" and does not ruin or impact the in game economy as it can no longer be farmed.
Seriously staff - a few tweaks and I think you could have a vastly improved system in place.

Re: bring em back
I think the majority is so thirsty for their auto tourneys that they don't care about rewards...for now. But take away the silver compensation and in time, there will be crying.
Does anyone actually have their own trophy from the old tourneys on display or somewhere as a keep sake? Or is it just sitting in a pile of all the other misc statues in queue because of silver speculation.

Re: bring em back
I wish I could believe those trophy's are there because they feel pride they won them from the event their character triumphantly conquered. Alas, I think they are rares on display just like any other rare. Bought and sold for their speculated gold/silver value.
The reward of winning a pvp event should be heavily consisting of intangible compensation. Like one of Gork's posts. He was just happy he could win a nice event whilst rich gar and other staff looking on along with a number of his peers.
It's great to see the majority not inspired by silver rewards. I hope that attitude maintains.

Re: bring em back
most players that were good pvpers back then quit. and had their houses fall. but as menk stated, there are still some out there.

Re: bring em back
Bring back events in exchange for making all GF blessed clothing take damage.
Re: bring em back
its not a true representation of the "shard population's views" because most of us who are indifferent or don't want them back don't come to talk about it. it took me 7 pages before i even clicked on this thread and i only read the last one.Notorious wrote:why are you so hateful no one is demanding anything and no one is making snide comments, this thread is more like a petition to bring to their eyes what their shard population's views are on the auto events.Pac wrote:Demanding things from staff (who owe you absolutely nothing) and making snide, condescending comments about them is a great way to get them to give you what you want guys.

i have two recent ones on display at the event tower. its trendy to hand them out now for winning player run events.Menkaure wrote:inkognito wrote:I think the majority is so thirsty for their auto tourneys that they don't care about rewards...for now.
